Not if you don't play like a cripple. Stand up, be an elf. You are a football player. You go play football: who cares if it hurts?

If it's a low-skill position player, I could see cutting him on a niggle, because you can't roster his backup and you don't want to invest a lot in him, watch him die to the NI and then have to start over. If it's one of your superstuds with numerous or rare improvements, you've got a huge incentive to play through the niggle, and you were probably planning on protecting him to begin with.

OTOH, you should be running a reservist lino anyway, so if you get a niggling lino, you just stock his replacement per the original plan, and voila! Likewise in a position you have to build into. If you have only two HE Catchers and one of them niggles, no biggie: you were going to hire more Catchers anyway!

What is Nuffle's tree? Risk its trunk, space the branches. Touchdowns are its fruit.

Ever meet an NFL lineman? The smallest of them are about 300 lbs, and they're not fat. I'd take that guy in a fight with a rat-man anyday.

Oh, that football. Nah, those guys have no business playing BB. But American Football is a contact sport. I guess we could look into the distinctions between a contact sport and a martial art, but I think those are largely semantic. Limited objectives, perhaps, but Capoeira players refer to their thingy as a martial art, even though it's just as much a form of dancing. Football looks a whole lot different, and has different objectives (win a game vs. look like a badass), but the analogy still kind of holds. Football has strikes, defensive and evasive maneuvers, the whole shebang. The strikes aren't intended to injure anybody, but anybody who's been blocked in the thigh or hand-punched in the chest knows that pain and abuse are a pretty common objective.

So, yeah, back on target, what kind of football player retires the first time he gets hurt? What kind of coach doesn't field a guy who's perfectly functional? A niggle doesn't keep you from doing your job, yet. Be a man, suck it up. That's what this game is about, after all.

Niggling Injuries usually solve themselves over time.

Until then the player can still do their job.
