Trollblancs Ogre Questions

Post by Trollblanc »

I rolled my first skillup of the new ogre team I field and rolled a 12.
I'm tempted to take the +STR of course - but I'm afraid I'll never roll doubles for sure hands again :)

Inputs? Thank you

If you cannot stall out for an 8 turn drive to score with dwarves then you need to go and play canasta with your dad..if you can find him.

Trollblanc, I hate to be a party-pooper, but in case the above replies are not clear: TAKE BLOCK.

All the best.

These people are insane, take +ST.

ST6 break tackle and no loner is very cool so aim for that.

I agree, take Strength. Being able to go head to head with a Treeman or blitzing Minotaur is great. Besides, you're one assist away from a 3 die block!

Block, because the turnover risk of 2d + block for a loner is 2,778% [1,427%] and the odds for the 3d without block are 3,704% [1,92%]. Your Ogre only needs one assist to have a 2D + block against any other big guy (mostly without the block skill) and with block he'll stand upright much longer.

Its a tough call, but block is slightly better.

Nothing wrong with block, but the ogre team needs sure hands. You will get other doubles at some point and while the turnover risk is higher without block ST6 is awesome vs strong teams especially defensively. +ST would be my vote. And sure hands before block as first doubles on an ogre team

Am I missing something? I may be mistaken but Sure Hands seems like a terrible skill to give an Ogre. Let the snots go get the ball, wait for a double on one of them to get sure hands I would think. If every Ogre on that line has Guard/break tackle and you take block on doubles I'd think you would have a pretty immovable line.

Naw, snots make terrible ball carriers. Elves dodging in will 2 dice them easily, and your problem with ogres comes with moving the cage. You have 6 ogres. If 4 of them are occupied in the cage, and one boneheads, you now have to move the other 3. One inconvenient bonehead in the last ogre move of the turn, and there's a 3d blitz on your ball carrier snot on.

Sure hands works because it gives him a good chance of picking up the ball, and prevents it from being stripped. I'd take a block ogre first though, because I think the amount of -2d's without SB you take are greater than those with SB.

Well that's a valid argument but I still think I'd go block over sure hands every time. I'd anticipate burning RRs on picking up the ball and bone head instead of blocks.

But then again...I avoid playing Ogres like the plague.

Ogres are the ball-carriers of choice, the Snots pick it up only when things are not going as planned. The Ogres are a better team than burgun thinks. I would take Block first, S-Hands perhaps as a second double.

The team needs 1 SH ogre more than it needs 1 block ogre. But after that block is better. +ST is better still as they become more difficult for oponents to deal with, sacrificing a bit of reliability on your own blocks
