How to start with Chaos
Can anyone give me some examples of good Chaos starting rosters?
Of all the teams I've played, I have the most problems with Chaos in terms of a good start up team and simply keeping them alive and in shape.
My first setup was this:
Lord Borak, 1 chaos warriors, 1 gutter runner, 8 beastmen, 1 RR (+ 1 leader), apothacary.
It was a disaster. Lord Borak died in his first match and with one re-roll we didn't get very far.
I then tried the same setup but with with a chaos warrior instead of Lord Borak: 2-4, 0-2, 0-2 losses and out of the tournament we went.
In the past more line ups have been tried, with 3 chaos warriors and no gutter runner. My Chaos teams simply never succeeded.
I think the problem is the lack of skills, expensive players and expensive re-rolls and therefore a small team.
If you do take 3 or 4 re-rolls, you'll end up with nothing but beastmen. Skillless players who are only good at blitzing.
Skilled players means either other races (is expensive) or star players (very expensive)

From your post I reckon you play with the "Gold" edition rules set, ie where you were allowed allies, starplayers (and the dark elves were allowed minotaurs and a bonus re-roll, those were the times). Maybe I mix some elements up, but you are at any rate allowed stars and allies.
With the current rules, I always start:
3 CW (puts all AV9 on the line of scrimmage)
8 Beastmen
2 RR (2 RR minimum due to general lack of skill)
8 FF (a must due to the expensive RR and players)
There are some variants of this, some with a Troll (instead of CW), even some with apothecary (ditching one of the RR as you're screwed if your players die 1st game).
However, allowed stars, I'd be tempted with starting with Lord Borak. His Leader re-roll makes him very worth the cost. If you are afraid of losing him before you can afford an apothecary, buy an apothecary from start! You'll end up like your first roster.
Chaos players are pretty talentless in the beginning. You are bound to play them safe for your first few games and concentrate on surviving. Never throw less than two block dice. I'm not the greatest Chaos tactician, but if you try a search on this forum you'll surely find something.
Looking back at my post, I can't see anything substantial to help you, sorry.
Try it again, with more luck this time:)

I started my Chaos Team in a quite similar way, but I exchanged one CW for a Beastman and one further TRR (dropping FF slightly), because I felt two RRs are just too less. It depends on your style, but I need at least 1-2 TRRs to pick up the ball
and one spare TRR for the occasional double skulls or the dodge roll before the endzone that will award you a touchdown.
Anyway, be prepared to have a long development route. I won my first two games with 2:1 each and still got no new skill for my team
. At Chaos, everyone can score, good because there are no targets for the opponent to concentrate upon but the points will be spread leaving you without skill increase for a longer time than other teams and after you got skilled up with everyone, there will be again no skills for a long time.
SSP management is crucial, if you have several beastmen with 1MVP, place them downfield when receiving, let them pick up the ball and make a quick-pass in order to get them their first skill.

My chaos team for the Lustrian Premier League started as follows:
1 Chaos Warrior
10 Beastmen
3 Re-Rolls
It started off a bit slowly (two losses and one draw) but has won the next five matches. My purchases after this was three CWs and then another re-roll. After that I'm probably heading towards a big guy.

I started my Chaos team with 4 RR and all Beastmen. It sounds crazy, but the 4 RR really help early on. After a few games when you add Chaos Warriors, your beastmen are all specialized. On defense, your opponent can't stay away from your blitzer because all of your players are blitzers!

Thanks everyone.
I think I'll try out the 11 beastmen, 4 RR and 6 FF team.
Maybe they should make the chaos RR less expensive. I can't imagine Choas people having a hard time learning skills or being poorly trained.
In warhammer chaos warriors and chaos knights are among the best troops around.

Don't you think that "Chaos" and "team work" are two concepts that oppose each other...?
Example:
Drak the Despoiler, killer of 500 Souls, Champion of Khorne, known for having slaughtered his parents and brothers, famous for his merciless pillaging of undefended hamlets, looks up his daily work routine as a quarterback:
7.15AM Wake up
7.45AM Take bus to Stadium
8.30-9.30AM Ball Handling Training
9.45-10.45AM Sprint Training
10.45-11.00AM Praising of Chaos-god
11.00-12.00AM Block & Foul Training
1.00-2.00PM Lunch, todays choice is Halfling-Pizza, uncooked
3.00-4.00PM Tactics Lesson
5.00-6.00PM Praise Chaos-God again, this time with human sacrifice
7.00-10.00PM Off for Invasion of neighbouring castle
10.00PM-Midnight After work orgy, then go to sleep (alone!)

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.
