OFAB problem?

Post by Grumbledook »

Was talking in fumbbl chat and this came up:

what happens if you have a stunned vampire who rolls a 1, they can't then get to a thrall so you then lose them to the dugout and suffer a turnover?

someone said you don't have to roll cause its not an action but you have to roll for really stupid and bonehead, I would agree that not rolling in this case would make the most sense but whats other people think?

Any BBRC member that would post a reply as well would come in handy too ;]

I can't seem to find it but I posted a question about this skill in a similar post.

During the discussions it was brought to light (by Galak I believe) that they do not suffer a turn-over when they roll a 1 when they are stunned...they simply don't roll over.

Does anyone remember what post those comments are in?

The end-zone “line of death” does not discriminate when one tempts fate by using a “go for it” to pass over it.

Here is Galak's answer (sorta) to this question:
Uh.... isn't it easier to just say they don't roll if Stunned ...
(extra 3 words in the text description) ... I'm trying to keep the
skill easy. If the Vamps are too good from extra testing ... fine
have them roll for Stunned to Prone ... but causing a turnover for
this is a pretty big negative.

This was on the NAF boards (no wonder I couldn't find it here!).

Already asked the BBRC about this one ... for now I was old to test this very minorly revised wording in the MBBL:
A player with this characteristic must occasionally feed on the blood of the living. At the start of any action where the player is not stunned, roll a D6. On a 2+ the player may carry out the action as normal. On a '1', however, the player is overcome with a desire for blood. The player's team loses the declared action for that turn and the player must instead make a Move Action. If the player ends his action standing adjacent to a Thrall from his own team, immediately roll for unmodified injury on that Thrall (an injury to the Thrall is not a turnover unless he was holding the ball). If the player does not end his action next to a Thrall from his own team, then he runs into Reserves to find a pretty maiden groupie to quench his thirst. Place him in the reserves box, this is a turnover.
It only has 12 additional words from the 2003 Annual, but it clears up two very big questions that the 2003 Annual wording causes.

And yes going from Stunned to Prone is a movement action so as worded in the Annual it would be a automatic turnover which was not the intent from what I understand.

Having recently played a game against this ofab, i think its still weak. My opponent just kept his vampires together and used the same thrall several times every turn. This was mostly effective due to most injuries being stunned, he also used the vampires first b4 the thrall in question who turned over for his action.

Actually statistically speaking most injuries will not be casualties.

2-7 Stun
8-9 KO that is 8 rolls out of 11 accounted for.
10- 12 Injury those are the other 3 rolls.

i didn't say anything about statistics

i just said it could happen

i did say he was lucky for them all to be stuns, you didn't say how many inj rolls he made on the one thrall but if it was 3 then i would expect at least one of them to be at least a KO if you want to go by statistics

Sean, I've been lucky.

In my last game against woody, iirc from OFAB alone, I had 2 kills (1 apoth'd), 2 BH, and more KO's than stuns. Also, I've failed less OFAB's this game than last, when in one turn 4 out of 5 vamps failed (including 2 with Pro).

I understand that luck is involved, i just think that this version is still too weak, im willing to wait and see how things add up once this seasons playtesting is done. I have the feeling that vampires will still end up being highly (perhaps too highly) competitive, which supposedly wasnt the original thot. Admitedly considering the most recent bb mag teams, that may not be a problem, only non bb mag published teams have to be less than awesome.

its not like its hard to tweak you can say make the inj roll with +1 or whatever to the injury roll

Or make it culmanitive (so the 1st time a thrall is feed off in a match it's normal, 2nd at +1, 3rd at +2, etc).
