I have to say, I liked the cards, once upon a time. I even remember back on the old mailing list Chet making up the "grab-bag" set of cards, I even got one of my ideas onto the list. They were fun, they were unpredictable, and to me, they were what BB was all about.
But, that's why I eventually grew to like the game as it's played now. When I first saw the LRB and found out no cards, I went "what? No cards? That's no fun!" But after playing a few games in the LRB, I came to realize that playing without the cards is much better. The game is now about the figures on the field, not the cards. And I'm not talking about just the Uber-cards, either. It flet more like playing a CCG rather than a strategy game. Now, it's more like playing a strategy game, where you as a coach must reliy almost soley on yourself and your skill at the game. I like this way much better. It's more fun to me.
But, I also have nothing against house-ruling the use of cards, nor would I mind playing a game or two that uses them. I just don't want to use them all the time or make them part of the main rules.

I voted something else, i want the cards, but a new set more balanced and designed to go with the new ruleset (less free stuff). I would also accept a new balanced handicap table.

Hehe, Hey Chris, I felt the same way, only I found that I didn't like it better the way it was, due to the potty handicap table, and the fact that since LRB doesn't help new team in a seasoned league, I lost players to the game.
Ahh.. life's diverseties.

Aye, I lost players.
Imagine, nobody likes to lose over and over and over again, to no gain.
Of course, we use the cards now, save a few of the more potent ones, and we use the handicap table to figure out the amounts of cards.
And for lack of a better system, we reintroduced bonus MVP's aswell. So the underdogs could catch up.

It may not be balanced vut sometimes I think our league really captures the spirit of BloodBowl...
Should someone complain about having a pit trap played on them - we just generally point and laugh
Our league is not for the faint hearted, not chess and certainly not fair. Even our loans company changes its interest rates randomly...
And do you know what? Despite the cards the good players always finish higher, and the same people still manage to get the trophies.....Only rarely will a full deck of cards give you a killer combo...
But thats our league

The good coaches still win. I'm sticking with the cards, (save a few real backbreakers) and we'll let the old farts wallow in their, "pure strategic" nonsense.
Let them play "Strategic bowl" and we'll play BloodBowl, with all the fun and mayhem that entails

cool
Then your league's winner should play ours...
People usually get the idea of our league when they read the newspaper articles:
http://usitweb.shef.ac.uk/~wargamessoc/ ... urces.html
And all the other Blood Bowl related stuff we put up there.....
Strategicbowl (TM) should be reserved for tournaments

I'm in Noodles league and i voted for the Handicap table
Yesterday i had my CDs handed back to me on a plate, no small thanks to my opponent drawing cards to 'nick one of my re-rolls and giving my BC greasy feet (GFI for everyone square of movement) for the 1st half.
Mind you i did forget to use my cards
and the guy can play a bit

Hmm. you've not had much experience of the cards though...
Greased Shoes is hardly effective usually, but your opponent, extremely experienced and knowing how to use them to their best got the most out of it...
It also takes practice knowing exactly WHEN to use them
Without the cards said player would actually pobably win 100% of the time instead of 95%....
And the result was hardly a walkover (2-0) to the league leaders (chaos dwarfs vs. undead
)
Unless the handicap table is radically changed, I'll (have to!) stick to cards...
The only REAL objection I have to a handicap table (of sorts) is the lack of mayhem and surprise... which is what Blood Bowl is about..
P.S. may do new gazette tonight if it keeps raining and my friend from Lonodn stays at home...

I'm all for a bit of meyhem but the cards shouldn't decide the outcome of the game from the very start. I agree that the handicap table needs work though.

The thing I remember most fondly about the special play cards is the bluffing that went on. Everytime I reached for my cards my opponent would pause and rethink. Just rememer the fun of grinning evily as you looked at your cards.
Also, cards are a great way to stop opponents from waiting near the endzone with the ball until near the end of a half to score. You can't be assured of scoring when your opponent has a card in hand.
Bring back the cards!!!
