shadowing

Post by Pritchard »

i have always felt that shadowing was a pretty effective skill to aquire, but i rarely hear it suggested as a skill to take or even mentioned, for that matter. am i wasting my time with it or what?

On fast players (MA7 or higher) it can be very effective especially when combined with Sidestep/Stand Firm and Diving Tackle or Tackle.

Skaven and the Lizzies (for the skinks) should definately have one guy at least that has it. Personally i think just block and preferably dodge are all u need. I had a +1 mv (mv 7) hobgob once with it and he was a major pain with it.

Its a general skill - so Skinks are giving up a double making it an even lower priority for them.

Why a waste on a wardancer? With Tackle he can still be used for blitzing ball carriers, and now he has the added functionality that if he fails to knock the target over he's standing next to him. I'd go tackle -> shadowing -> sidestep and only then diving tackle, to prevent people from blitzing him loose and then moving away, but that's just preference.

As for shadowing in general, IMHO it's wasted on anything with MV 6 or less, and I'd very much look at the rest of the league before I'd give it to MV7 guys. Given the average opponent with MV6, MV7 would give you only a +1 on the dice roll to follow (comparable to a 3+ roll).

shadowing and diving tackle?

Post by Mike_Black »

Why do you think it is nice to have shadowing and diving tackle on the same player?

If you use shadowing and the dodging player left you can't use diving tackle also.

I don't get it. You use shadowing or diving tackle - never both!

My player has Diving Tackle & Shadowing. You try to move away, roll a '6' for the dodge, so I try to shadow and succeed. Next square you roll a '3' and I use Diving Tackle, so you burn the TRR or fall over. If you stay on your feet then you get away, but it significantly increases the chances of you turning over.

It's one of those skills to pick up on a fast player:
with the essentials (Block and dodge usually)
who dosn't need to take a skill needed on the team (Kick, Tackle, Dirty)
Who hasn't just rolled doubles
and dosn't have another specific career plan (pile on/jump up catch/divingcatch, gaurd/stand firm)
You get the idia.

One day I'll get round to it on one of my players and enjoy it immensly 8)
