Special Play Card Situation

Post by Arayel »

In my league meeting last week we encountered the following situation. 1 Team scored a touchdown, to which the other team played the 'Is it a TD?' card. However to counter this the scoring team coach played 'Illegal Drugs' to gain extra movement and run away from the blitzing player!

While we ended up deciding this on a dice roll it does bring up a number of questions regarding the timing of special play cards and if there should be any rules for precedence as in the case above both cards allowed the player to move immediately - who goes first?

We use cards - these things come up all the time :D

Illegal drugs is played "at the end of any of your turns"

Scoring ends your turn - but does that mean you can then play it at the kick off? No - because the kickoff is no longer at the end of your turn.

Is it A TD is played when a touchdown is scored. I would say then that this has effectively ended the players turn and illegal drugs could be played as a counter...

Basically there are no hard and fast timing rules for cards - but the league commissioner should have some judgement!

I would allow this as it effectively cancels the two cards out - which is good :D

We have also seen:

Razzle dazzle - score in a turn, kick off, opp misses turn, score in a turn (A certain champion member of our league was less than impressed!)

and a host of other card situations

Sorry Noodle, I would have to disagree.
The card "Is it a TD" is played in the turn of the other player. By playing it you are merely prolonging the turn. It has not ended yet. You therefore cannot yet play the illegal drugs card. :smoking:

Well I can disagree some more :D

The card "Is it a touchdown" says nothing about continuing your opponents turn - it specifically says "when your opponent scores a touchdown"

In fact if it DID continue your opponent's turn - YOU wouldn't be able to move YOUR player to do the blitz... :D

See? Its all conjecture - make your own mind (and rules) up ;)

The main point is that the TD is NOT scored yet. The card is there to prevent that. That means the turn is not over yet. And it doesn't matter who's turn you're scoring in with this card. You can use it even if the TD happens in your own turn. :smoking:

my ruling in BUBBLE would be, although we don't usethe cards, that Is it a TD does not only finish the turn but starts the blitz (if possible)
the illegal drugs wouldn't word.

It's the same as dodging, rolling the dice and then saying no I won't dodge as your player has diving tackle or you want to block.

The scoring (hopefully for him) player finished his turn by scoring where he wants to score, he knows the card exists, he should have taken it into account.

his mistake, your luck.

Draco - maybe - but the card says "when your opponent scores a touchdown" this to me implies the TD has been scored but just not noticed ;)

However Dave has a point in that the card should be (maybe) self contained so you can't interupt a card's effects with another card...

:?:

But then we'll be getting a set of rules like Magic The Gathering
