Wood Elfs?
My friend is getting wood elves, and from what it says in the LRB if he uses what comes in the wood elf box only his team rating will be 100 before he buys TRR or FF! Teams starting in our league start off with 1,mil gc, so if the players alone are 1 mil, he's pretty stuffed! What is the solution to this?

I don´t know what you get in one of those boxes but wood elves are expensive where only a lineman costs 70k, thrower and catchers costs 90k while a wardancer 120k.
So usually people dont start with more than 1 or 2 positional players and the rest linemen.

Your startingteam is independent of what comes in a box of woodelves.
Personally i would recommend him starting with:
1 wardancer
10 linemen
2 rerolls
8 fanfactor
go for apothecary first, then second wardancer, then some catchers and maybe a thrower and a reroll or two. Then start replacing injured players.
which is far from the box which contains:
2 wardancers
1 thrower
2 catchers
7 linemen

You could also start with
1 wardancer
1 thrower
2 catchers
7 linemen
2 rr
2 ff
It might not be the best starting line-up but it does give you a chance to see what all the players can do. And you already have the models for it.
Otherwise you will proxy other linemen. Maybe get some other wood elf models from the WHFB range and convert those.

if you are playing in a league you want high ff because of the high cost of wood elves you also don't want to be losing pitch invasions with high cost players
so for that reason i always suggest using what slurp suggested
as for the models that come with it you can just use the catchers, throwers etc as linemen just mark them suitably to let your opponent know

I actually started my team with what comes in the box..Less one lineman, of course.. it had nothing to do with the models though, as I don't even own WELF minis myself, I borrow them off a mate..

Needless to say, they don't make a lot of money.. but they are doing OK so far...

no man, don't start an elf team (for league play) with a thrower. your line elves can throw very well, and if you spread completions out among them, whoever gets the mvp for the game will get a skill.
makes for a much better team in the long run.
anyway, the preferred starting roster for wood elves in a league is
1wd
10line
2rr
8ff
