Precision on Pro

Post by SBG »

I know it has been answered before, I just can't find it with the search engine. I'm sorry! Had an argument during a game over the weekend and want to show the guy the post with the answer...

Can you use a re-roll on the pro skill ? Like this :

Double skulls;
for whatever the reason, the player takes his pro skill instead of a re-roll;
rolls 2
Uses a re-roll for the pro skill; rolls 4
double POWs.

Is this a valid sequence?

Fred

yes you can. consider the pro something the player does. You can thus use a TRR on that.

yeah he can do that, but i would have taken a reroll directly instead of using pro first.

depends...
Should the pro's work, you have the RR to spare on something that has no skill RR ...

I'd also go straight for the RR if you don't want failure, but it's an allowed way to do it. Doing it this way you have more change of going down.

agreed, but also more chance of having a RR left for that 5+ roll you gotta make to score..

you got 100% chance of succeeding with a rr, and 50% with pro.
Using pro with a rr to spare you have 75% chance of succeeding.
That means that you have 25% chance of failing.
Usually when you use rerolls its because you failed something and i would never use pro knowing i had 25% chance of getting a turnover even if i used my reroll.

I do agree in most cases, but Dave has a point. When it's scoring or losing and you still have a 5+ roll to go...

i see pro used most often on big guys (as their only option) or on blocks where the best result ended in a pushback. if thats the case, i most definitely would use pro first. but if its something important, like dodging or picking up the ball, i would use the rr then. i guess thats why i never really use pro. that and the fact that when i do take it, it never works...

So you can actually use a re-roll to Pro roll? The skill description states that if you fail the Pro roll, the result cannot be re-rolled with a team re-roll. Does that apply to the original roll that was attempted to re-roll with Pro or the Pro skill roll? Now I am confused... :o

That applies to the original roll. As long as you consider two facts, you're moving within legal rules:

1) you can use only one TRR per turn
2) you can never re-roll one dice roll more than once, in this case he re-rolls the pro-roll, not the original dice roll.
