Necromancer's spell on an opposing undead...

Post by JJB »

I had a ruling from the Blood Bowl at Nottingham about this, but it seems some people don't agree clearly about it..., so I'd like a confirmation of this issue that everyone in TBB can be able to see.

The issue:
Playing undead v undead (or any team that has hired players with regeneration), I kill a player of the other team who has regeneration.
Do I not have to wait for the opponent to fail his regeneration roll before the reanimating spell of my necromancer comes into play?...

I actually was told during the BB that I could actually even regenerate an enemy skeleton into a zombie, as soon as my opponent tried and failed his regeneration, but I've had people who later argued about how things were supposed to be done more recently...

Also, I'd like to know what players cannot be reanimated - e.g. a mummy does not have normal human size, so I guess it cannot be turned into a zombie by its opponent, no?... I would be surprised if only big guys and stunty players were the ones disqualifed from reanimation.

Not sure about your first point, but as for the human like thing, I think it is only STunty and Big Guys who can't be reanimated for this reason.

First, you can re-animate only an opponent's player that is dean AFTER the end of the match (=must have failed his regeneration or apo roll beforehand), else you could use your necromancer before a normal opponent uses his apo! Furthermore you're meant to add your new extra player in the post-game phase and not during the match, so no discussion about this loopholism.

Second, you can re-animate every player that has neither the Stunty, nor Big Guy trait, that means you can create Zombies out of Mummies and Bull Centaurs.

It's another issue if your commiss things is silly that you can raise dead out of undead players and houserules against it.

Raise the dead allows you to add the zombie imediatly narkotic is wrong

and yes its only big guys and stunties (though not necessarily players with those skills, morg and bull centaurs can't be raised but mummies can)

and you do have to wait till they have failed regeneration roll but they should also do this right away, though i do know some people wait until half time of the next touchdown before rolling (which messes stuff up)

Why mummies but not Bull Centaurs, that doesn't make sense.

cause mummies are same size as a human seeing as the are a mummfied human after all

a bull centaur isn't human size it has the body of a bull

clearly a man of your intellect should have worked that out?

You think I have intellect? Your so nice

It just seems a little too in decisive, too say that all except Stunty/Big Guys would be alot more clearer.

Indeed, I was wrong. I should look it up before writing the next time, and not relying on the - wrong- fact that I memorised the LRB. Then the question whether you can raise a dead before regeneration and/or apo remains. Looks like a loophole, but I would opt for no.

Second, concerning the size of re-animatable opponents, again there is a blurred ruleset saying "man-sized". I always ruled it that it meant if he/it is not stunty or big guy he can be re-animated. You have to draw a line somewhere based on the rules, not common sense (!). What if my bull centaur has lost a STR or is just a, rookie that means young and smallish Bull Centaur. And my STR3 Piling on Halfling? And my Werewolf, look at the mini, huge! No, I still stick to the diversion by physical traits.

Raise the Dead is a normal spell, so needs to be cast at the beginning of a players turn.

Regeneration occurs at the end of a drive or half.

The argument is that if you are "dead" but waiting to make a regen roll can you be raised? I don't think there is enough in the rules to go either way - but I'm inclined to say you can raise a player who is yet to make their regen roll.

On Javabowl it does it straight away and so is the raise the dead spell, is this something that needs correcting?

I seem to remember that you roll to see if you can reanimate at the end of the game (this happened once in MBBL)
I actually got surprised when it happened immedeatly in fumbbl.

It was like that in 3rd edition, and waiting to roll it can make a huge difference in the way an undead team plays on the field. If they know their mummy will be back for the next drive, their strategy will probably be different on the current drive.
