Would you include a Troll in a CD team?

Post by TiMuN »

Topic says it all.
I'm doing pretty well with just the two bull centaurs, but maybe i'm missing something here. What about having a Troll too?

Team is just starting, and none but a hobbo has any skills after their third match played.
Team is composed by:
2 BC
5 CD
5 Hobbos (1/Sure Hands)
3 RR
5 FF

What would you do?

Buy a 6th CD and a 4th TRR first, those are more important and versatile. You can think of an Troll afterwards IMHO.

Yes, The Re-rolls are the most important things missing from the team at the mo

Would that be too lower speed? Not that the Troll is any speedier, but, i can think on the Troll getting some attention from the opposing big guy, so the bull centaurs are somehow free to move around..

what about that?

Narcotik - thanx for the advice thou, 3 RR are ok for now as the big problem with this guys is picking up the ball, and that Sure hands hobbo cover this area ..

You will need the TRR for:

1) picking up the ball (if not using your sure hands Hobo, but one is always a target), especially with your BC if they are in scoring distance
2) Hand over to one of your bull centaurs
3) For Double Skull/double Skull/Pow results when Blocking/Blitzing with your BC
4) making sprints with your bull centaur after you used your sure feet.
5) desperate quick and short passes with you Hobos

I always burn 2-3 RRs for No. 1 and 2, so having only 3 TRR can be tight sometimes.

Troll or CD does not make a any difference, if you face agility teams they will try to dodge away anyway ( and CD have tackle Trolls not), if facing bashy teams they will block your CD leaving the Troll aside. Give three CDs Guard ASAP and stick them to the LOS, better than any Troll (you'll have ST 4/5/4 on the LOS then, a non guard Troll just disrupts this). Why bother with a non-block, non-RR guy when you can have the best blockers around?

Buy the Troll as player no. 15, leave slot 16 empty for freebooting stars.

P.S: never place your BC on the LOS. Always on the sides. The opponents Big guy won't reach them anyway.

I say as the rest, buy CD and reroll first.

I think its a little less cut and dried than that.

Your league composition matters quite a lot. If there are a lot of strength teams out there (particularly Chaos & Orcs) then you may find your CD's getting overpowered on the LOS. Not a good situation to be in.

Then there is the Wild Animal to consider. If there are a fair few Minos or Rat Ogres around having a troll can be a big boost.

However if its fairly balanced I'd say the troll can come later.

Any clever coach will keep his RO or Mino away from the LOS respectively the Troll. They will rather stick them downfield to blitz your Bull Centaurs. In that case it doesn't matter if you have a Troll in your line up or not.

Like Ian said, depends on your league, if there are a bunch of st 5's in the league get the troll otherwise get the reroll and cd.

Trolls are important for the CD's if you want to handle some of the higher strength bashy teams effectively. You have to use the Bull Centaurs as safties and blitzers to justify their price. I'd probably get him before the 4th reroll.

I like the troll in a CD team. The two tournaments that I have participated (and won) with CD's I have both times taken one and I have to say that the troll has both times played quite an important role in the lineup. The first time I only had one BC even!

Anyhow, what the troll does:

-Gives you ST5
-Sucks up opponents high ST when they try to counter it.
-When left alone, he becomes an excellent player to place into a spot where you want it to be hard to block your player away.
-When feeling lucky with the Really Stupic roll, a ST5 blitz is always handy

I would have started with the Troll.
I would buy the Troll, then the RR and then the last CD.

Troll is only 30k more expansive and is just such a nice addition to your frontline!

No I wouldn't, I think they are spoilt enough as it is. Should be restricted to 1 BC.
