Need help with Undead Team
I'm joining a league next week with an old-school undead team, ie. Mummys, Wights, Ghouls, etc. I will be playing 10 games with a finals at the end.
What I'm looking for is what is the best starting line-up for this team and a couple of offensive and defensive strategies to start me off.
I've played undead before, but find I have a really hard time scoring, so any tips would be helpful.
Thanks

Don't think you are slow!
Without knowing the other teams in the league, here is my general thoughts.
Offensive:
You have up to 4 players that move 7 and 4 that move 6. You are not slow. Too many new Undead coachs think they have to play a dwarven game. My target is to get 3 TDs per game- which is useful to only as a mindset.
I don't really cage but if I get the chance I try and push back the line in a single direction. If I am at least coming up even in the LoS, I tend to do a lot of diagonal movement across the pitch if the D has strongly committed to the wing I first moved down.
Defensive:
Tackle. Lots of tackle.
Undead can stand up to most 'Bashy' teams well, but have difficulty stopping skill drives. Tackle takes away their speed through the middle and makes any dodge potentially turn ending- very often will effect what they will try. Also keeps Blodge ballcarriers from scoring ignoring your hits.
LoS general:
Winning the LoS battles and getting CAS is great, but my priority is to use the Zombies to trap as many players in the LoS bog as possible. If you can get 2 Mummies and 4 Zombies to keep 7 opposing players from moving your Wights can get the 2on1 coverage where the ball is going. Between being 30k and having Regen, what happens to the Zombie doesn't matter much.

At least you have regen, and the Ogres will have problems with the ball. Tackle is THE difference between mauling and being beaten by stunty teams as well.Abator wrote:So far, the other teams in the league are fairly varied. There is 15 other teams ranging from an Ogre team to a new Elf team. The Ogre team really worries me.
You are another CDN, so you will proably get this. I usually setup in like an opening faceoff. The Defense spots are Ghouls (2) and each Wing is 2 Wights (4). The 'Centre' is 2 Mummies and 3 Zombies.
For offense, I tend to move from that position just like in a game- the Ghould that picks up the ball moves diagonally toward the opposite Wing with the other Ghoul moving to protect. That Wing is usually where I would use my blitz to soften up the path so those 2 Wights are moving forward.
The other Wing moves forward and inward to slow down the players on their wing from shifting sides and to get in better scoring position.
The 'Centre' just 'ties up his man' and like the 'left or right wing lock part of the Trap' tries to push off to one side to 'lock them against the boards'.
If he gets his opposite side away from your Wingers to get toward the side with the ball or you didn't do enough, the Ghouls then use their 7 movement to get behind the opposite set of Wights. Maybe even a hand-ff and a GFI to score.
Score with your Wights as much as possible.

The Hockey analogy is pretty interesting, I will have to try it.
As for the Ogres, having 5 ST5 guys on the front line is pretty intimidating. I understand that they all have bonehead and to go after the gobbys, but still...
What would you recommend as a starting lineup ?

What would you recommend as a starting lineup ?
2x Mummy @100 kgp
4x Wight @90 kgp
2x Ghoul @70 kgp
3x Zombie @30 kgp
Which gives you enough for 2 Rerolls and 7 FF.
Now look at that lineup against the Ogres. 2 Mummies take 2 Ogres fairly evenly (except no BoneHead) and the 3 Zombie just stand next to the other 3 Ogres as long as they can.
Some will get knocked around something fierce, but between BoneHead, no Blk and a little luck the Ogres are a non-factor in terms of winning the game. That leaves 6 Goblins vs 4 Wights and 2 Ghouls- where would you put your money there?
For the Hockey analogy- the latest version of my Detroit Dead Things are 8-2-2 without dodging a single matchup, inlcuding some significantly better TR teams

You only need 11 players because of regen. The best roster (and the one
I am having much success with in my league) is
2 mummy 200k
2 wight 180k
1 ghoul 70k (theyre squishy)
6 zombie 180k (skellies are squishy)
9 FF
4 RR
You can compete early and aren't likely to play any games with less than 11 due to regen. Money comes quick cuz high FF not many injuries, and you dont have to waste it on RR until you have 4 wight 4 ghoul (Undead burn re-rolls like nothing! No sure hands and ag 3!). Play the cage and grind it out, get some DP zombies. Others have given good advice above.

This is a very risky linup. I see the advantages on the long run (having FF9 and 4 RRs) but you have only 3 possible ball carriers and at least 2 games to wait for the 4th.
Your oppopnent can concentrate in taking out the 2 wights and the ghoul and wins the match.

ok never played with undead but have played against. Think the better players use the zombie/skele to help them achieve a team plan. The crap coach will assume they are not good BB players and trhow them around with little thought. Effectivly they are tring to win with only six players, so I think you should develop a game plan which requires zombie. The wight and ghoul are essential in scoring but if you want to win consider an ag2 player a potential. with reroll a 4+ pick up/ catch can work so a 'fake' run with a zombie forward for a throw could be a sensible plan. Bet most coachs will zone him in the backfield so you win both ways.
Dont get stuck on a couple of ag3 men as your only chance to score.
