Why does everyone love guard so much?

I havn't read through the whole thread so apologies for repetition, but guard is not only a God send on the front line, but also for a cage and also for Elves defending a thrower, enabling them to risk more players further forward.

I didn't take gaurd for a long time. Then after reading some more on it decided to give it a try, and ever since I have been hooked. It is a tide turner when you have it on 3 or more players on your team. I love lining up my team and forcing the opposing coach to think of ways to contain the skills I have aquired, makes me feel like I have created a great team.

I agree
If you have several Guards it can give you the edge field-position-wise. You have more options when moving players in your own turn and then it works in your favour in the opposing turn by maximising your defensive assists.
My own Human team is based around controlling the field position and my Guard-Blitzers really help out achieving that.
Guard is addicting

And it should be considered first whenever an Elf rolls doubles. Doubles on a guard with 4 Agility is just amazing, as they can dodge to give you some really great blocks all over the field.

And that is the answer to the question at the start of this topic:neoliminal wrote:Guard is like giving everyone around you +1 ST.
Guard gives a big bonus to anyone near the player who has it, plus puts the fear of God into anyone atempting to blitz a cage, or use a cage through a defensive line, or atempt to hit anyone in a line of more than 3.....
(its ace, at the WPS challenge cup I had 5 Longbeards with guard.... hehe

guard is one of the best skills for any bloodbowl player, ANY position.
Dwarfs have the advantage (and Cdwarf) of already having block and tackle, with guard this creates a knightmare wall reducing dodging and gaining maximum strength. Also with stand firm (choose) 2 of these are just about going to give you a solid wall, ogres will have trouble knocking you down.
The dwarfs with free block and tackle can go for guard first skill, and so the arms war will always be in your favour. If in doubt just try 6dwarf with guard and post again how cool your team is.

You only need a normal skill roll for an amazon blitzer to get such a player

And just to back up Skums point(!), if I ever roll a double for my DE's I always consider Guard first, and very often take it, esp if its with a lineman. Unfortunately, I rarely roll doubles.
