How do Norse teams deal with Skaven?
I have a norse team, its new and im new, only played 2 games, my second game was against a skaven team that had played 5 games already.
I lost 5-1... i found he was way too fast, and his passing game killed me.
he had:
rat ogre
thrower
3x gutter runner
1 storm vermin
and maybe liek 7-9 linerats
i dont remember who had what for skills though.
i have.
2 blitzers
11 linemen
1 thrower
1 catcher
my problem was stoppinghim from scoring. i founf that a cage that runs down side line while i have few linemen/blitzers on LOS knocken rats around worked, but i needed to stop him from scoring and his speed and passing just killed me.
any advice?

Kill them all. If you don't have tackle ignore Gutter Runners with Block and concentrate on the softer targets.
Once he's men down swarm the Rat Ogre to produce turnovers - and set up GR's for 3 dice blocks.
When he's got no stinking rats left then you won't have a problem scoring.

ask thadrin how it's done, he played skaven at the T5
just hit them when they get near .. especially the lino's without block.
Use Blitzers to go after the GR's .. two blocks is better than one.
Make the Rat Ogre go the way you want him to go.
keep someone back to gut his incoming runners

As Dave implied, I think the tactic of "hit them hard, hit them often" applies. Its the old Dwarf "don't be afraid of a one dice block" principle. You have block, more than likely he doesn't on more than a handful of players, especially as its lkely his Gutters who have the majority of his SPP.
Oh, and frenzy against players near the sideline works a treat too.
And for God's sake play a couple of guys deep on defence or they'll just swarm straight past you.

I think if you lost 5-1 your problem was not stopping the skaven offence, but keeping the ball when they kick to you. So against Skaven (and Elves) the most important thing is to keep the ball safe. As soon as you drop the ball, you're lost because of the speed of the Gutterrunners. So make sure you guard the ball BEFORE you try the pickup and as soon as you have the ball, form a 5 player cage with no enemy contact to make sure the ball can't be knocked lose other than on a 5+ dodge/2dic against harakiri blitz. Try to get dodge and surehands on your catchers and use them as runners instead of wide receivers. Work the cage up the sideline, sacrificing speed for safety and try to remove his key players with the blitzers (push off the pitch).
But after all it's not easy to beat a higher TR skaven team with almost rookie norse.

well... yeah my team so far has a reputation for never picking up the ball....ever....( need a 3+ to pick up..roll a 2, burn reroll...roll a 1)i think the only time i actually got the ball and held onto it was when he made a bad kick....wich was like 3 times i think.
one other thing came to mind.... if i can hold and keep the ball, i can slow the game down, take as long as needed to walk downfield and score, cuz if i can waste an entire half just doin that thats one less half he has to score. then i let him score a quik TD, and just "cage it" up the sidelines for another td to win it.....but, since this is me...it wont happen, but i think its a decent plan.

That's what most strength team strategy guides mean when they say "master the 2-1 win"The Harbinger wrote:one other thing came to mind.... if i can hold and keep the ball, i can slow the game down, take as long as needed to walk downfield and score, cuz if i can waste an entire half just doin that thats one less half he has to score. then i let him score a quik TD, and just "cage it" up the sidelines for another td to win it.....but, since this is me...it wont happen, but i think its a decent plan.

I know those problems with picking up the ball well. Against Skaven or WE i usually move 2 players to the left and the right (or front and back) of the ball before i move in for a pickup. This gives you a 25% chance of another 4+ (AG3) catch roll or at least the ball will come down in at least two tacklezones (1 worst case if you get a catch roll and fail).

and get the mino for fun.
and as an additional option to mess up
Seriously, secure the ball, then go hunting. You win the kick-off, try scoring in turn 7 or 8, and kick but on the way, taking out as many as possible. If the other team kicks off, you can try to slow him down, but your best scenario is the other scores fast and you have as many turns as possible to score the equalizer.
