Newbie chaos team.

Post by StumpyDave »

Well our league starts soon and I've decided to play a chaos team but would appreciate some advice vis a vis my starting line up.

8 Beastmen
3 chaos warriors
1 troll (because I have an old model)
1 Team reroll
fan factor of 5

Now I could drop either a beastman or a chaos warrior for more cash but then I'd lose a sub. (does haviong substitutes count in BB?) But with the ready cash I could buy all kinds of stuff.

Thought?

with this roster you'll lose all the time ... 4 strong players is nice, but once that 1 RR is is gone you'll have some very short turns, as every 2 dice block gives you a 1/9 chance to turn over (no RRs, no block skill). That means your average turn will allow you 5 blocks only ...

there are lots of discussions on chaos lineups, try the search function. Also search for "Balrog's Guide to Chaos"

I'd always start with (if you have the minis for that):

1 CW
10 Beasts
3 RRs
9 FF

If you are limited to the minis that come with the team box try:
3 CW
8 Beasts
2 RR
8 FF

Get more RR, you dont need 12 players to start with so lose the troll and mabe one CW for a beastman instead.
Thats my advice.

you don´t need 12 players start with 11 and a high FF to keep the cash flowing.
buy first the apo and new players. when you have 2 or 3 reserve try saving for RR, since you need them.

also try to spread the SPP around to keep the team balanced.

I started my TR 220 Chaos team with

2 CW
9 BM
3 RR
5 FF

and realized that a higher ff would have been much better.
You can´t start with less than 3 rr, because you have no skills at the beginning to get the ball or even to block. So you´ll burns your rr´s very fast, believe me.
To start with ff 9 (which you need because of your expensive players and rerolls) you have to take the roster tim sugested:

1 CW
10 BM
3 rr
5 ff

Although this is not very good at the beginning it gets better and better with every game you play.
The route to go is:
Apo, 3 CW, Big guy, than the other BM.

Get sure hands (or big hand if you roll a double) on 2 BM as fast as possible. Your CW need block more than anything else. The other beastmen will get block (unless you want 1 or 2 dirty player and 1 kicker)

Believe me this team is one of the best in the long run, but be prepared that you won´t have fun in the first matches.

Biggest trouble wih some of the lineups suggested is I can't take an Apothecary. Followers of Khorne (and the big guy himself) don't look kindly on people taking back the blood they pledged and sticking it in their own veins. Plus Apothecary is just a posh name for wizard and you know what Khorne thinks about magic.

So I'm currently going for 8 BM, 3 CW, 2 TRR and 8 FF. I still might get the troll because if it isn't already in the rules I'll be introducing a house rule that Always Hungry affects prone players as well as those they pick up and Throw Team-mate also applies to the opposing team and doesn't require the thrown bod to have any related skills (of course landing will be problematic but like the thrower cares!).

Nice to see some experienced input tho'.

Please dont do that! Chaoswarriors and beastmen have no skills that grant rerolls (like catch, sure hands, etc.). You'll be a victim of turnsovers if you only buy one reroll! i started my chaos team with 3 rerolls and it works fine! a higher fanfactor is also important to affort the expensive chaoswarriors. afterall its chaos! so its probably the spirit of the team to do unexpected things!
i chose the minotaur as my bigguy. i really dont like the troll becuase he is really! stupid!!! but this is much more a question of your own taste!
