Planning a human team...

Post by VorTeX »

Hi,

i´m planning to start a human team in the near future. And its the first time i´m not sure which starting roster i should use.

I was thinking about something like this (for a long time league):

4 blitzer
1 Thrower
6 Lineman
4 ReRolls
FF 7

But i am not sure if it is a good option to start without any catcher. But i thought that the catchers will get their spp easier when i buy them later. So i would be forced to score with those blitzers and lineman in the beginning. Would be better for spreading the spp.

And the second question is. If i could afford a 16 player team should humans really buy 4 catchers? Or better fill up the roster with 1 ogre, 1 thrower and 3 catchers?

Thanks for any advices and thoughts.....

i've started with that roster before and thought it sucked and left me one dimensional

so i started another team using this roster and its great

1 ogre
1 thrower
2 blitzer
2 catcher
5 linemen
9 ff
3 rr

sure you have one less reroll but you got some st5 muscle to tie up some opponents and you have dodge and catch skill rerolls instead, its a very flexable starting lineup and seeing as humans biggest strength is their versatility I find it works best for them

Hey,

Humans are a fun team to play, I was going to play them, but got hooked on the Chaos Dwarfs.

Anyway, I would agree with Grumbledook's suggestions for a starting roster. I have seen several veterans on this board suggest that exact same roster as one of the best ways to start a human team.

Hope that helps! :D

At least one catcher anyway.

I have found having one floating out for the pass basically forces double coverage taking away pressure on your QB.

I would propably start with a similar roster as suggested by Gdook. An Ogre is very useful in a human team.

I used that line up and it really emphasises the human ability to switch strategy to suit the opponent. After the apoth buy the 3rd & 4th blitzers.

At the very least, find a way to cram in one or two more players...11 starting players for league play is just inviting disaster, IMHO.

Catchers rule! I have had a lot of success with human teams by taking plenty of the little blighters. You need the dodge and catch re-rolls, especially early on.

I kinda like:

2 Blitzers
1 Thrower
3 Catchers
6 Linemen
3 Re-rolls
FF 9

for a starting team. Never let me down.

An ogre is very tempting, admittedly. But although humans are the most (only?) versatile team in BB, I always try to start them to either run or pass, and then add the other elements later on. If you try stretch the team too far you will end up in a nasty situation.

Good luck! (Anuff)

.... oh, buy a second Thrower next. Then season to taste with 2 Blitzers or a Ogre. :)

Thanks for your advices.
Yep the roster grumbledook mentioned looks good. i also thought about taking an ogre from the very beginning so he will get this damn block skill early on. I am just not sure if the blitzer no.3 and 4 will get their skills fast enough when i buy them later on.
But i agree its a very good roster to start with.

I kinda like this setup:

4 Blitzers
1 Thrower
2 Catchers
4 Linemen
3 RR
8 FF

Buy App and Ogre
(We play with cards, so I will have a good chance to have both within a few matches)

I like the fact that I have more position players than I can afford when starting with an Ogre. I admit that this setup focuses more on the ball-playing style with more mobile players, but when you have earned enough to buy the Ogre, your position players will perhaps already have a skill or two :)

I was going to try this roster:

4* Blitzer
4* Lineman
3* Catcher
1* Thrower
6* FF
2* RR

Basically trading in a reroll and FF from TeLef0n0 rosters for a twelve player, although you could just swap a reroll for an extra lineman.

I like to start with the maximum amount of Blitzers because I think they are the best players in the team and I want them to all to skill up as quick ASAP.

I only have 4 linemen because I feel that once you have a full strength human team (4* Blitzers, 4* Catchers, 2* Throwers) you only need the four linemen as you will want your last to spots for freebooters and / or an ogre. I don't really want to be retiring players (the linemen) who have earn't SPP's and skills.

Admittally with aging you may find yourself retiring players anyway so starting with more than four linemen isn't such a problem.

I think 4 RRs for a start are a bit much, Humans have got access to all skills you desire.

also, if you buy them later it will help you keep your Team rating in check

I don't like to start with less than four blitzers. Also the ST 2 catchers I don't like in the starting lineup, since they have a higher risk of getting hurt than the rest of the team. But after a few games when the blitzers have done some TDs they can protect the catchers better.

I like vortex's startup.

Then you get 4 re-rolls AND 4 blitzers AND FF 7 (wich is good enough).
Then buy an apothecary, thrower, ogre, catchers. This way you don't have to buy re-rolls for some time, 4 will take you a long way. So I think it is the best longterm startup.

But then it is just my oppinion.

Thanks a lot for all your advices.

Finally i decided to start with this unusual roster:

4 Blitzer
2 Thrower
5 Lineman
2 RR
1 Apo
FF 9
10K cash

I know i will have a hard time in the first games with this starting team but i think its worth the experiment in long term sight. I changed one ReRoll for the Apo because there is nothing more annoying than loosing or niggling players in the first game (and it wouldnt be the first time that will happen... ). I took a second thrower instead of a catcher because so both of them will get some points by passing early on and i got a full ST3 team in the first games. I wanted those 4 blitzers because so they are forced to make the TDs and also get Points early on (in a team with specialised catchers like skaven, humans or woodelfs its hard to score with other players i think). And i am thinking of going for the ogre first. So i hope the Starplayer points have spread enough by the time the catchers arrive in the team. And from then on they can make every td they can get cause the rest of the team hopefully has the spp they need... :P And the last reason to take this one was that i didnt want to buy 6 lineman. My full 16 player team owns only 5 lineman so i would have to dump one sometimes...
The problem is, that i have one other day to make my final decision...and i am just 90% sure of taking this roster. Damn it. Blood Bowl makes my brain burn. :o
