Advice for a very old Wood Elf team

Post by Khrys_Antos »

Hiya all,

It has been quite a while since I've posted for some advice. So bear with me. We are starting the next season and I've decided to keep my team over into the next year. Mainly because I finished second in all the major tournaments and didn't want that to be the main accomplishment of my team. :o

So here is how my team looks after a few games in the new season:

2x Wardancer
-First one has MV9, Block, Dodge, Leap, Tackle, Strip Ball and Frenzy
-Second one has Block, Dodge, Leap, Tackle, Sure Hands, Side Step and Catch. He also has one Nig.

1x Thrower (My original thrower, somehow he is still alive)
-Pass, Sure Hands, Accurate, Safe Throw, Block and Strong Arm. Also has one Nig and 5 AV. :o

2xCatcher
-First one has Catch, Dodge, Block, Sprint, Pass Block, Sure Feet, Side Step, Leap. One Nig also.
-Second one has MV10, Catch, Dodge, Block, Sprint, Sure Feet, Side Step. And sadly one Nig.

9x Linemen
-One with MV8 ST4 and Block/Dodge, also has AV6.
-A linemen with AG6.
-A linemen with AG5, MV8 and Dump-Off.
-A linemen with AG5 and Dodge.
-A linemen with a Nig.
-A linemen with Block and Dodge, but 2 Nigs.
-A linemen with Block and a Nig.
-A linemen with AG5, AV6, Sure Hands and Kick.

3 RR, 10 FF and 4 Assistant Coaches+1 Apothecary. My TR is about 284 (Very high I know)

I basically follow what is written on this site for in-game strategy.

Its worked wonders for my linemen. I used to have very lowsy linemen and those which survived quickly got that first level to get that skill they need. On offense I use my one turn touchdown machine to score if he is there. Otherwise I run a small group down one side, the ball carrier is the Dump-Off player and just chuck it to the next best target, usually to WD #2 when he gets hit.

Here are some previous discussions which have been concerned with my team:

My opponents include a Skaven team in its 3rd Season. Not really a major threat, but the RO does some damage to my LOS people. A high TR Amazon team which is a pain in the arse to beat, nearly always takes down several of my players and cripples a handful. That team has over 800k banked due to winning 2 out of the 4 major tournaments and a very low player turnover rate. Another player is playing with a new goblin team and yet another with a mid-range high elf team.

Any advice on retirement options, future cash expenditures (I'm broke), and again, maybe yet another change in strategy is in order. I have a rough idea of where to take my team, but I really could use some advice to make sure I'm heading in the right direction.

Drog the Block, niggle guy, and also the AV6 Dodge guy.
You really need to be geting rid of some of your nigglers, as you theoritcally could be missing 6 player per game :o
I also think you need to be trying to score more with your linemen.

Your wardancers, catchers and thrower are clearly too good now to be replaced, even with NI.

I would replace the 2 linemen with NI though, so that you have less chance of loosing loads of players. Also, you might want to buy another catcher and build him up for the times when your older catchers are not available.

This team looks very fragile to me. I think that pretty soon you are going to have a game where you fail a lot of NI, and a bashy team takes advantage of those low AVs and puts the cosh on you. Bye bye woodies. :(

Good luck though!

All of those lowered armour elves are jsut waiting to die. If you have the money to replace them and the Nigglers then do so asap. Otherwise hold some money aside so that when they die you can afford to replace tehm. Looks to me like you need to go through a rebuilding time.

Actually eight players at my last count. And against that dirty Goblin player, I am always down to 6 guys. I haven't lost to him yet (in fact, I've outdone him even in CA's). Though I don't know how much longer my luck will run.

I'd love to be able to score with my linemen and I run the AG 6 and AG5 guys down with the ball carrier if possible. I've had bad luck with linemen and so many have died I have lost count.

Retiring the Block linemen with the Nig has been on my mind lately. I should have added that the guy with AG5, AV6 and Kick/Sure Hands has a Nig. He's useful when he shows up, that Kick skill is the bane of my opponents.

Nazgit:

I'd love nothing more than to replace my crippled linemen. I'm stuck in the TR range where money is scarce so I will probably have to live with 11-12 players for a while if I retire some people. Not many bashy teams around, and against people who attempt to bruise me, I just don't allow it to happen by getting out of the way and allowing only that one blitz.

Rebuilding sounds like what my team needs. Also need cash to restart the process. :D

I guess I could consider retiring a few linemen. Though the TR hit will probably be low, I was considering maybe retiring the first catcher since he has 143 SPP points. The TR change would be much more significant. I would like him to get to 176 though, only one player in 4 years of BB has managed to get that.

You could try "massaging" your TR. Retire 3 or 4 players at the same time - et viola! you have a lower TR. Possibly get rid of the asst coaches too - desperate times call for desperate measures! This will hopefully put you in a position where money is more readily available.

It may seem risky, but if you don't do something, then pretty soon someone is going to retire 3 or 4 players for you, and you won't get to choose which ones! At this way you remain in control. Take the initiative! :D

Good luck!
