Dark Elf lino with St 4

Post by campaigner »

Hi all,

I've got a lino on my Delf team with ST 4 and Block. My question is what would you give him as his next advance:
Dodge to help him stay alive or
Tackle to make him a more efficient brawler?

I personally tend a little bit more to tackle, just for the sake of diversity.

In general S4 players are less worried about getting hit, so dodge isn't as necessary for that.

The choice however depends a lot on the rest of the team and the league.

How many Tackle players do you have already?
If you got a lot then tackle isn't as necessary.

How many opponents have dodge?
Lots means more tackle. Particularly if Wood Elves, 'zons or Skavs are dominating the league.

How many opponents have tackle?
Lots of dwarves or tackle happy coaches means dodge is less worth taking.

Another skill to consider is Sure Hands (for protection against Strip Ball).

On a double I'd favour Jump Up, Frenzy (but if you have your witches already that may be overkill) or Mighty Blow (he's hitting people at lot).

yeah frenzy would be a nice choice for a double.

I've so far got no other tackler on the team.

I can't really look for my opponents when choosing skills because I use this team to play against my buddies when I see them (which has become less now that I've moved) and we all have tons of teams to choose.

I also have a Dark Elf Lineman with ST 4, Block and i gave him Dodge.
That makes him a great ballcarrier, he is very hard to bring down and he cant try more risky dodges.
But my team already has 5 Tackler, so it was not necessary to give him that one.
Sure Hands was not necessary because there arent too many strip ballers in our league.

with dodge you can use him very effectively as a safety. plus it makes him a bit tougher still, very handy because he's going to be a target!

If you want a strong ball carrier take Dodge.

If you want a good player for face off a big guy and with a little help of comrades takes an advantage agaist strenght 5, take Dodge that help him to survive a lot.

With ST4 he will be always on a player of the opposite team and can't make a good defensive player behind line of scrimmage to take down enemy incursion. This role is more efficente with two player, both with tackle, that close up to enemy like a sandwich.

Another choice is a good defender of sideline with Side Step, never in the crowd and a nasty dog on the flank.

There's my opinion and there're a lot of choice.

Of those 2 Dodge for reasons already given, but I would go for more aggressive skills if you can get them. A damn good safety in the making.

Tackle, but take guard on doubles. ST 4 guard on an Elf team is nothing to laugh at.

Guard on doubles, dodge on ordinary roll.

I'm a firm believer of the statistical victory. Dodge is a skill that will meet with frequent use and will enhance your probabilities of success far more than a skill specialised for a certain limited use.

Exactly. My DE sides are bit boring really. Linos get blodge unless they roll a double which usually gives them guard or dauntless. Ona 3rd skill they get tackle, pass block and one gets kick.

Seeing as i always take block, dodge then maybe tackle on almost every elf i ever had i have to say dodge.
But thats what i prefer for my playing style, not said its the best choice.
