Doubles on 2nd skill for STR 6 Ogre

Post by Quetzalcoatl »

My Ogre on my Human team just got his second skill. His first skill was +STR! So, what do you give a STR 6 Ogre on doubles? My thoughts were either:

-Dodge
-Frenzy
-Stand Firm

He really needs Block, but I'm taking the long term view on taking advantage of doubles to get something he can't normally get. Dodge will help him keep standing more often. Later, if I also get Break Tackle, and Block, he can dodge off the line to blitz more often.

Frenzy is also very tempting. STR 6 makes it pretty useful, and hopefully will speed me along to getting the next advance.

What should I do?

UPDATE!
----------------------------------------------------------

Well, I played my game against a very strong Chaos team. I went with Frenzy. It is a risky move in the short term, however I'm hoping to get a very dangerous ogre over time. The Frenzy has already started to pay off, as my ogre caused one casualty and one knock out. This is better than he usual does (did I mention I roll poorly on breaking armor?). Dodge would've helped on two occasions during the game, in terms of blocks that might've been negated. Still, I feel in the long run Frenzy will be a good choice with the STR 6.

Frenzy or leader! both will help him. Leader gives him more reliability, and frenzy will get him more chances for cas, but you should watch where you put him on the line.

I'd go with Frenzy.

With ST 6 you only need one assist on a normal ST 3 player to get 3D, and otherwise you'll be rolling 2D on pretty much anything other then Trees.

Consider playing him, with frenzy, on the strong wide zone if you use an overload to one side offense.

Block! Realy!
Frenzy with out block? I would not block like to have to block 2 times with a Big Guy, without having Block. Turnover Potential is just TOO big.

Agree. Leader would be it! Remember, you cant reroll double skulls/both down.

If you have leader on someone else thoguh (or plan to get it soon), take frenzy. Even without block (which should be your third increase, no matter what) this might work out. Be aware of the risk though, i.e. delay his blocks as long as possible.

Where in the LRB is that phrase listed??? For so far I know. You can reroll any block result. Or does this only concern the Big Guy for whom no normal team rerolls may be used?
If that is the case then you should know that you can"t reroll any block result for a Big Guy unless you have an Leader reroll or a Trophy reroll or the Big Guy has the Pro-skill and makes a succesful roll for it. I know, I know, I always wanted to be an advocate. Can't help it.:smoking:

Big Guys cannot use Team Rerolls.

LRB pp 26 "Big Guys prefer to work on their own, and in any case are not noted for paying terribly much attention to what is going on in team practice sessions! As a result, Big Guys may not use Team Re-rolls during their actions."

They can use Leader, Trophy or skill rerolls.

Thanks for the reply Ian, but I know all that. I was busy adding some additional lines to the question to be more specific why I asked the question cause I don't understand why Fronko wrote specifically :you cant reroll double skulls/both down. It implied that you can reroll any other result with a Big Guy (if that is what he meant). :smoking:

I'm a little confused, to be honest. (But then I had at least two cups of coffee too many for my daily quota so it might actually be me, being off track. :) )

We were talking about what skill to give to his big guy. I said leader, because otherwise you couldn't reroll those block dice. Which is practically, what yoiu say, so I don't quite get, what you thought wrong in my comment ... but, as I said, might be the coffee! :)

There's no need to be confused. I thought that you referred to something like you can never reroll double skulls. Obviously that was'nt what you meant. So we all are on the same track here. :D

Do you realy think you will get to 31 SPP with a Ogre fast? I dont think so. I have played around 10 games after my Ogre got his 2nd Skill till he got his 3rd. In your case this would mean 10 games (or more since you cant choose both down as I could) without block and without a re-roll.
