Slowly learning how to paint...

What does that make me? Hmm... I'm obviously getting dementic. I knew I was a dementic bulimic (eat a lot, but forget to throw up

) but obviously I am a dementic painter also

Thanks for all the kind replies.
Since my first team is now painted (except for potential future purchases), and I was looking for a chance to develop my skills some more, I offered to put some paint on a completely unpainted Wood Elf team for a coach in my local league.
It felt quite different from the Beastmen I became used to during the last months, but I guess that is a good thing.
I only managed to finish two minis during the last two weeks (holidays and all), but here is how I did so far with my first attempts at Wood Elfs:

This is his Wardancer. I tried to come up with a classic green color scheme without making them look too sissy.

Next was his Treeman, his latest aquisition. Not much choice of color here. Brown it would be. I had to use the shoulder pads to give him at least some team unity look.

So here are two more weeks of my learning by doing. I hope you like it.

PS: I PM'ed Traveller where I live, so he can date me. JUST KIDDING. HELLO! What's wrong with you guys...?

Really nice work! I won't even say "for a beginner" because it's nice work no matter what. Reminds me of my brother-in-law. I am self taught from about age 12. I teach him to paint and in 3 months he's winning painting contests...BASTARD!!

My only bit of advice is to not fall into this trap. Sometimes it seems like there isn't much choice for color but when you see a treeman painted in grey ashy colors you'll know what I mean. And don't even underestimate the power of simple conversions. Throwing some moss or mushrooms on the treeman can make that brown look a lot less typical.

Just look aroudn at the people who have done red or blue orcs and you'll see that color isn't always an obvious choice.

More good stuff. Don't forget to show us the rest when they're done.

Sometimes it seems like there isn't much choice for color but when you see a treeman painted in grey ashy colors you'll know what I mean. And don't even underestimate the power of simple conversions. Throwing some moss or mushrooms on the treeman can make that brown look a lot less typical.

Or you can add some foliage and use red, orange and yellow, as if it were autumn.

To be honest I don't dare to do conversions yet. I have some greenstuff available, but I don't want to use it until i have some really fine modeling tools.
On the other hand, since this was my first Treeman ever, I guess it just had to be brown, but I'll certainly give your advice some thought. Thanks.
