Cheerleaders and assistant coaches

Post by Cooper »

Has anyone ever bought one? and if so, why? (other then "i had the figs")

I mean, well you can retire players to be an assistant coach, so i get to see them now and then, but never seen it bought.

And i've never seen (or noticed) a cheerleader.

Wouldn't it be more fun if they actually had some influence on the game rather then just rarely on the kickoff table?

Otherwise might as well get rid of them imho, why keep track of something that ain't worth it.

I mean, yeah, SUPPOSE you have a full roster AND enough money, AND enough RR's, you could throw away your money there, but can't we make it sometoing that has some use?

Cheerleaders are a waste. This is why I created a house rule meaning that the home team's Fan Factor is increased by 1 for that game for every five cheerleaders they own. Assistant Coaches are a waste as well so I created positional coaches that cost more but offer the chance of a re-roll for something to do with them. Before that, the only coaching staff I had ever seen used was the Apoth (never allowed wizards).

In the MBBL2 they get you special play cards and the coaches really like the rules.

I'll normally keep to retiring players as Asst., and will buy 2 cheerleaders later on, but other than that nothing.

However, in the MBBL2, I'm going to (eventually) buy/get at least 4 of each, for the bonus cards

Code: Select all

Assistant Coaches:
During the pre-game sequence, a D6 will be rolled for every 2 Assistant Coaches that you have. If at least one 6 is rolled, then your team will receive one free Pre-Match Preparations special play card in addition to any other cards drawn. This represent the extra training that your team receives from having all those assistant coaches.

If at least two 6s are rolled, then your team will receive one free Dirty Trick special play card instead of the Pre-Match Prep (unless your team is not allowed to get them (they get Pre-Match Prep still)). in addition to any other cards drawn. This represents that your coaches worked extra long to come up with something a little extra for this game..
Cheerleaders:
During the pre-game sequence, a D6 will be rolled for every 2 Cheerleaders that you have. If at least one 6 is rolled, then your team will receive one free Grab Bag special play card in addition to any other cards drawn. This represent the extra boost for this game that the Cheerleaders have given you.

If at least two 6s are rolled, you will receive a Random Event special play card instead of a Grab Bag Card. This represents the fact that word of the antics of your cheerleaders have made this a "must-see" match and bigger matches have larger twists of fate.

[edit] Damn, Galak posted will I was looking for the rules[/edit]

I buy them. Either one in a blue moon when I have 10K left over or after my team has built up and I have little left to spend on.

It's a habit I picked up when the Robbed card was still in its nastiest form.
My feeling was "I'll be damned if any coach is gonna get an extra 10K from me!"

They will win you some free rerolls and I have been so eloquently informed by Zombie that just buying a reroll outright is cheaper but I really don't care. It's nice to just deny my opponent the freebee and you can't put a price on that.

Dont think I have ever bought an Asst. Coach, but I sure have retired
a few players to assistants --- I think I have 5 of them in my Goblin team !
They are good value for Goblins (retiring players that is) but even better for
'flings.

I have bought 3 cheerleaders for my Orc team, but only because:

(a) I won 140k gp in our league GF -- (I lost 2-0)

(b) My Opponent bought 6 at the end of the same game!!

I like those rules.
Can't they be included in the "real" rules? And why not?

I have frequently retired players to be assistant coaches and with my old teams I have bought some cheerleaders with excess money.

my new teams haven't yet progressed that far, but if I've got the money... well, three or four cheerleaders won't hurt.

What kind of TR and played games were you at when you bought them?
Don't you think you would have been better off buying an extra RR?

naaah...
most of the teams (that was back in 3rd edition) were at least over 200.
and I already had 5-6 RRs or so.

now with the new rules (on which I blame all my player deaths) and my frequent 1-rolling when it comes to winnings I haven't gotten round to gathering enough money for those guys and gals.
