Starting a WE team need advise

Gents, hi!
Just wondering if you could suggest what ti start a Wood Elf team with, rrs,ffs, some tactics, skill selections etc. Never tried WE team before so figured that now is might be a good time to start :)

Lot of people (including myself) seem to agree that the best roster for a league is the following :


10 Line
1 Wd
2 RR
FF 8

As for advice, you can do a search, lot of topics already speak about it, but as a start i would say :

- Priority is to score, and avoid casualties
- Reroll are gold for elves, don t burn them when it s not necessary
- Spread you spp, try to do some pass and TD with the line (Ideal is 1 spp on each line, so when they get a mvp, they got a skill)
- Use your speed, that s all you got ;)
- Always have a player in scoring range
- Always do your safe move first, then your 2dices block, and after that dodge the guys that can t block


Purchase order should look like : Apo, 2nd Wd (or catcher depending on the cash flow), catcher, catcher, thrower (or 3rd reroll)


For the skill choices, check the post it on this forum for the positional, try to mix dodge and block on the first line elves .

Strip ball is really great on one of your wardancer .

If you are in for the long haul, and fancy a challenge, then

11 Linemen
3 re-rolls
FF 8

is an option.But you are probably better off with the wardancer.

Im totally agree with neverdodge but:
-give KICK to your first normal lineelf skill
-Strip ball is a MUST in the first normal skill with one of your wardancers
- Im telling this again because is very important:
"Reroll are gold for elves, don t burn them when it s not necessary"
-use you Ag4 to dodge away from your enemies.

Dark_mauri is absolutely right.

Kick is a crucial skill for fast teams like Woodies as it enables them to put a lot more pressure on when defending.

At any point when does Treeman come in? How soon? Do I need one if I'm going to be playing practically each and every race out there.

I think treemen is the most controversed part of the woodies . Some people seem to find them useless, as others wouldn t even think playing without them .

To resume my point of view :

The treeman first job is not to be a line elf . I mean, you put him on the line instead of one of your players. He s strong, resistant, and can handle some opponents . Second, he s a good hitting power, and can do some big hit before the end or your turn .

Personnaly, i haven t played with one yet, so i can t tell you how much it is effective . I think everyone should make his own opinion about that . I ll try one soon in my woodies team, hoping he ll save some elves by taking the hits.

Having taken a treemen quite early on with my FUMBBL woodies (13th man when I had both War Dancers) and I've been very impressed.

One thing I think really works is that once your squad is up to 13/14 players it doesn't matter if he misses the 1st half as you ought to be able to field 11 players for most of the 1st half and bringing him in then helps.

He just makes the LOS so much tougher. Opponents either divert enornmous resources to taking him down (but rarely out) or avoid him like the plague.

He's so reliable too - no BH roll means you know he's always going to be able to move and he ought to be able to cover most of the center of the pitch. Just don't let him get dragged wildly out of position.

Its really made me subscribe to the idea the Treemen either need removing from the team or severely curtailing (on pitch take root).

Here's a very old match report on a WE team that started with 10 lineelves, a treeman, 2 RR, and 9FF and went to become one of the best teams in FUMBBL.

I underestimated the tree in the past but he's a brilliant distraction. If you opposing coach is too smart to fall for putting 5 men on him to get a 2 die block, then he makes a nice big hole for you to run through.

A tree's almost as good as a second apothecary, for all the damage he absorbs. Just don't make the mistake of focusing on him too much yourself. He's a great big lumbering (no pun intended :oops: ) distraction who is great for keeping your fragile players alive and relatively safely tying up opponents.

Something else.....
Try to give as many SPP to your line elfs 'cause they are the base of the team. A WE team is very good or very bad by the skills of his lineelfs.
(all this is in my experience)
