Well,
You didn't like the ally discussion of your Elf/Ork thread.
I guess some kind of ally rules will be necessary in order to have some trades. Otherwise there would be noone to trade with. why should I trade an Ork lineman against an Ork lineman??
And since you (hopefully) got some feedback on what people think about allies in general...
How many people do you think want to have such a feature for the game?
How many people do you think want to trade their good players? And what will they get in return??

You do not trade rookie players.
You do not trade players of the same position only.
Example:
Beavis of Team Black is about to be traded with Butthead of Team Red
Beavis (3 Star Player Rolls, 1 Niggling injury)
Thrower 110K 6 4 3 8 Sure Hands, Pass, Accurate, Strong Arm
Butthead (2 Star Player Rolls)
Blitzer 120K 7 3 4 8 Block, Strip Ball
To complete the trade, Team Black would have to pay Team Red 10K Gold.
"You have what I need" Deal ?
Allie rules would of course spice the thing up massively, but need to be designed verry carefully.

I've played In a league that has done this, trading players, so I know what your on about. We did it pretty much as you did working out player costs, trade players and pay the difference, however we dropped it in favour of a player list, a coach could simply add his player to the list instead of retiring them and if somebody wanted them they just payed the coach the players modified cost. These players could also be hired by starting teams( but rarely were)

Exellent Tip !
If i understand you correctly, you introduced a "Free Agent List" instead of Trading between two coaches. Well, that would be a perfect option and addition especially for League play !
However, i would like to add that a Player who is set on the Free Agent list has to be hired by his former Team for the updated price if they want him back. This is to prevent that Coaches could abuse and use the Free Agent List to expand their team Roster.

As a House rule you could bring in a transfer system to complement it, whereby one team negotiates the purchase or trade, and with any Gold paid above the value of the Player is a sort of Goodwill payment and therefore increases the players new value and therefore team rating.
For example Team A Buys Beavis value 110k for 140k as this is the price he had to pay to make the opposite coach sell him, therefore his new value on the new roster becomes 140k. After all why would a team sell a player for exactly the same as it has cost them to build him.
In fact in real life teams actually survive by producing young quality players then selling them to bigger clubs for high transfer fees, far in access of what they originally invested. IE Rio Ferdinand. West Ham - Ledds and presumably now to Man Utd.

While i like the speed of the "SPP*2" Calculation, the following bugs me:
How are negative player features handled ? (like niggling injuries and statistic decreases)
How is reflected that some Skills are harder to get than others ?
When Player value is based on SPP only, a "Star Player" Lineman with MA+4, 2 Niggling and 2 MA-1 injuries would be as valuable as a perfectly skilled Player.
McDeth:
Well this is why I wanted to make Coaches TRADE Players, not sell them.

Thats why you get people to run more than one teamSputnik wrote:But to trade players, they must be of the same race (or ally rules as above).
My experience is that even in bigger leagues there are not that many teams around of each race that trades would be possible that much.

Hi Toby,
Just a first remark: you would find a good system on the Galak webpages: it was published on compendiums (reserves and transfers): so you could add a youth system, and perfect you sytem in order to make it the closest possible than Bayern, Hertha, Borussia, Werder ones

www.midgardbb.com
I find you system should be a good addition... Maybe you could add a thing, something like "crazyness in transfers", that means Griff Oberwald/Zidane should be transfered for 75 ME / 300 000 gp

A problem with your system (updating cost of the player) is that you would have to change your team rating method: if you would add 10k gp for every starplayer rolls, let's throw away the actual TR method (SPP/5)

Yes Sputnik, imagine this board would be a community for an Online Version of Blood Bowl...
There are 386 Coaches registered on this Board; There are 14 Official Teams so you would have 27 Teams to Trade Playes with alone in this Community.
Now imagine good ally rules. Even with only 2 Allied races per team that takes the number of possible Trading teams to 81 !!!
DFC:
Excellent Idea to kick the Old Team Rating. I mean nothing would change, and you dont have to do the extra calculation;
I left Star Players out, because of this Board; I currently try to rebuilt every Star from a Rookie, using the System above; Griff would have a Value of 200K to hire permanently, and it would cost 70K to use him (Apearance Fee). To get more money, when you used a Star you may roll an additional winnings D6 for every Star that played in the Game. (Because the Fans are attracted and pay more to see Stars
But, DFC, lets not talk about Stars because everybody is going to start Flaming me else

with that mass of teams it could work...
but with allies: I just imagined to have a troll slayer production with a drarf team to get more money. "So, noble coach Toby of the I-don't-know-who mushroom heads, what do you want your troll slayer to have as skills? And of course without niggling and no aging and a two game guaranteeeee...for nearly free".
So you can have your "perfect" player!!
But back to the trade: sounds interesting enough as long as there are enough coaches around...

Remember when i came into this board i always talked about changes that would take advantage of possibe online gaming like Starcraft / Broodwar and Diablo for example, with Comunities, Charooms, Message Boards and a common Gaming Plattform on the net.
I understand the "Production" concern. Again, forcing trades, not simply selling, would work against such abuse. When you rolled a perfect troll slayer you will not give him away for free, and thats not a matter of money because the Value is fix.
