starting skaven team

Post by brownk29 »

i'm starting a new league with a skaven team, which is a change for me as before i have always played bashing teams, what do you think of this roster?

rat ogre
2 gutter runners
1 storm vermin
1 thrower
7 linerats
2 rr
ff8

our league is predominately throwing teams, at the moment we have only a single basher and only one person left undecided

Best time to get one these days is in the beginning with the new wa rules. Just try not to start against dwarves or norse. Anything else would be decent.

Rat ogre is a bit hard due to the new wild animal.
i like to go this way,
1 rat ogre
2 sv
2 gutters
6 liners
3 rr
some ff

Yup No thrower, when i play skaven I prefer to not use one, I build the gutters as ball carriers. It is actually quite a fun way to play and i've had great success with this roster.
If you want an alternate way to play them try this. 8)

Personnaly i would go without the RO and 12 players :

1 Thro 70
2 SV 180
2 GR 160
7 Line 350
3 RR 180
FF 6

FF 6 could be low, but worth the try i think .

hmm, interesting, no subs and some of the team are bound to get splattered due to low armour value won't this leave you to vunerable? not sure about the no thrower, in my practice games i've been placing the runners on the wings and throwing the ball to them from the thrower after whacking a hole in the widezone with the rat ogre/stormvermin, might try and play a game with this team before we start the league tho.

There is a sub in his lineup...

I'd go
1 Vermin
1 Thrower
2 runners
8 linemen

3 RR
9 FF

10k left for the apo or replace one lineman and 1 FF with a 2nd thrower.

You need a high ff cuz they are very fragile, it the team I lose the most players with...

i was talking about Zy-Nox's suggestion which has no sub, sorry for the confusion, i garee about the ff, the lack of a second stormvermion or ratogre would scare me tho because if that one goes down thers nobody left on the team who i'd be happy throwing blocks with, i suppose there fast enough to get assits most of the time mind

I like to keep the thrower, keeps the GRs free to run around the place and keep your opponent guessing as to where you're going to throw a pass. Also stops you from burning RRs early on in a league.

I'd say, can the RO. The new WA rules make the RO very hard to play effectively. If your oppos stay away from it, it's a big pile of TR that doesn't go anywhere. If he falls over, or (even worse) gets stunned, say goodbye to him for three or four turns.

The only really effective use of the RO nowadays (at least, in my opinion) is rooted in utilizing his prehensile tail and the fact that a failed WA roll doesn't lose his tackle zones. Put him where he will be useful right away in forcing people to go around him. Get him tentacles and foul appearance ASAP. But, like the mummies on the Khemri team, pretty soon the play will run away from the ratogre, and he'll end up standing there howling a lot.

If you think about it, failing to move half the time means that the RO has an effective MA of 3 (the expected MA/turn averaged out over the game). Not very good.

i should point out that our league has agreed to use the old wild animal rules, as the new ones suck, so hes actually still useable

I'd lose the RO regardless of the WA rules being used. You don't need him.
