I actually have a ST4 Blodges Sidestep blitzer, a 5 man foul took care of him though.

Odd...

Why not safe throw or accurate?

To me dirty player is for a lineman...

Starting Pro Elves...

Post by millimil »

Hmm,

after reading the whole thread (and the other one relating to this topic, too) my starting line should be like this:

2 Blitzer
1 Catcher
1 Thrower
8 Lineelves
2 RR
and 4 FF.

Any suggestions ?

I think it is a potential mistake to start with less than 9 FF. As discussed elsewhere on TBB (search for fan factor 9 and cooperation), if both teams have FF9+, you'll likely have games with 61k+ fans. If your FF drops down, it becomes much less likely.

Your elves are going to die.

You will need to replace them, accept that. For that, you'll need money. Trust me, as high a FF as possible is a great idea. You can't buy it later, you know.

Also, because of the low cost of linemen on this team, it is possible to start with 3 RR instead of 2. Consider that that 3rd reroll will cost double later in the season.

thanx for your opinion, but my thoughts on this were...

-in our league is a high chance of playin aganist rookie-teams the first three matches (fast team+good agility->winning most of them..)

So i will have enough money to buy:
-an apothecary and perhaps another liner

without one catcher there is no fixing point for my opponent. Most of them try to take the fast and weak players (i.e. the catcher) out of the game, not focussing on the other ones (the blitzers...). I think 2 RR are enough, because i´ll need 12 players in the squad (imagine one death in the first game and one MNG->9 Players left->loose second game....).
FF4 is not that much, but without the catcher IMO it could be more difficult to win the first games.

thats why,

yes, but I like non-standard skills in strange places and it took him from 6 to 16 spps in his next match whence I rolled the double to give him strong arm.

I don't often foul so I use the linemen differently to normal teams.

So I guess you get spp when fouling? Dangerous house rule for the health of your league players :D

Under those circumstances DP is really good!

yes we do, and although initially it was a worry, we found that the teams doing the fouling were too far behind in terms of scoring to worry us and it looked nicely one dimensional.

I have suffered one death and no niggles by SI or aging so far, I just stay out of their way and blitz them early so that there is no one who can really hurt me.

My opponenets usually have "stunning matches" when they play me. :P

When starting an Elf team you are always tempted to get all the position players you can, instead of linemen, since they are so darn good.

Trading away a reroll to upgrade a linemen to a skilled player is reasonable since they come with built in rerolls, reducing the need for team rerolls. Just don't overdo this one.

Trading away FF to upgrade players can work but it is risky. I started a High Elf team with 4 FF but spent most of the season with just 2! As the season wore on and my TR increased, the money just trickled in slower and slower. Part of my strategy was to keep out of TZs so I didn't get hit much and even with that I was very fortunate that this team only suffered 3 lasting SI's and no deaths (in 12 games). If players had started dying I would have been in danger of being perpetually outnumbered or having an all-lineman team because of the lack of money. Since Pro Elves have AV7 the risk of this happening to them is even greater.

Take it from me, you can with with Pro Elves even if you don't have a catcher yet. Sure, they're great, but you can win without them.

As a matter of fact, to get the power-pass game going, you need two catchers. It doesn't matter if you infiltrate a catcher downfield, he'll get blitzed and fouled. You need to get two or three downfield.

So what I am saying is, build up your basic game with linemen and blitzers before you go into the hardcore passing game.

Remember that your oppos will be in the same place (if they're rookies), so you don't need the power-players yet. In a rookie situation, your linemen (ag4) are all scoring threats.
