handicap roll: assassin question

Post by Cerebus »

If someone rolls assassin on the handicap table, and upon rolling for injury they just stun the player they chose, what happens to that player?

I would rule that he couldn´t be setup for the first drive... put him in the reserves just as if knocked of the pitch...

As Ian rightly says, the official answer is nothing, but sense would dictate that he misses the first drive. House rule it as you see fit.

Agreed ... officially nothing happens if you roll Stunned OR KO'd (I know, I know ... bleh!!!!!)

House Rule in the MBBL2:
Stunned = miss 1st drive
KO = play goes to KO before the opening Kickoff (first recovery roll is not until the end of the 1st drive).

Can I have clarification that OFFICIALLY nothing happens as a result of a stun because you have to use Assassin at the start of the game.

One of the Coaches in my League has this Handicap at the moment and it is being debated at what point it can be used as it is not explicitly written, only implied due to the use of the APO (in the same way as rolling for a niggle).

Other Handicaps state to use straight away if that is when they should be used.

Never step onto the pitch!
Absolutely Goddamn not!

You don't need a ruling. It is spelled out quite explicitly in the rules:
5. Roll on Handicap Table
Once you know how many Handicap rolls you have you
must consult the following table to discover what advantages
your team gains for the match. The following ‘general rules’
apply to all results rolled on the Handicap table:
Roll on the table and apply the result immediately if
you can.
Then make your next roll, and so on until all
rolls have been used up. If you are allowed to pick a
result then do this after making all of your rolls.
• Re-roll any duplicate results.
• No handicap result may be used more than once.
• The descriptions below tell you when you can use a
handicap result and what effect it has on the game.
Assassin result:
ASSASSIN: Your team has hired an assassin to take out one of the other team’s top guns. Pick a player on the opposing team and make an Injury roll for him. The opposing coach may use his Apothecary or Regenerate trait on the player, but an Apothecary used in such a fashion is not available for this match.
Clearly, it can be applied immediately and therefore it must be applied immediately.

We play it like this.

Stunned: The player is available
KO'd: The player is in the KO Box no roll before end of first drive
CAS: CAS but apothecary can be used and is no longer available for
the rest of the match.
