Vanilla Big Guys

Post by Munkey »

There have been a lot of suggestions about improving Big Guys and removing negatraits so I thought I'd drop in my thoughts.

In our league we have completely removed Big Guys at the moment and I have been thinking about coming up with some versions for us to consider adding back at our next rules review. This is what I came up with so far:

Code: Select all

Kroxigor 5 5 1 9 Prehensile Tail, Thick Skull, Big Guy 140,000 G,S
Minotaur 5 5 2 8 Horns, Thick Skull, Frenzy, Big Guy 160,000 G,S,M
Ogre 5 5 2 9 Throw Team Mate, Thick Skull, Big Guy 140,000 G,S
Rat Ogre 6 5 2 7 Prehensile Tail, Frenzy, Big Guy 140,000 G,S
Treeman 2 6 1 10 Stand Firm, Throw Team Mate, Thick Skull, Big Guy 170,000 G,S
Troll 4 5 1 9 Regenerate, Throw Team Mate, Big Guy 130,000 G,S
The main theory was to lose the negatraits except for Big Guy which keeps their reliability down and drop the Mighty Blow as I see no real reason for it and on ST 5 to start with it's a killer.

On top of that I upped the basic price a little. I'm not sure if thats enough or if they should have restricted access to Block skill too, but playtesting will tell if we decide to bring them back. Besides there's plenty of time until we discuss the rules so I've got time to tweak them before I showcase them to members of the league who are not online here.

I was most pleased with the Rat Ogre, I don't think the Skaven should have a front line Blitzer and was looking to make a killer safety like under the old WA. I'm hoping that AV 7 will make players a bit more cautious and not just shove him on the line as he's quite vunerable there, and I thought it fits with the rest of the team.

I don't know, a big guy with AV7? He'll be pulp. IMHO AV8 is enough to differentiate the RO as fragile compared to AV9, 10 big Guys.

Not to mention that it doesnt have physical access for some reason.

I didn't bother with all the nega-traits and the like.

I think a crucial step when allowing Vanilla Big Guys is to take the General skills away. With limited access to Block, they retain some of their liability. I did allow Mighty Blow but stripped out Throw-Team Mate and some Thick Skulls.

I also dropped the ST of the Rat to 4 and left the AV at 8.

They have worked exactly as I had hoped in my league but that was because I limited the supply of them by radically changing the team selection procedure. Under vanilla LRB rules they could still leave it all unbalanced.
