Development of the human blitzer

Post by Joemanji »

So, what are your thoughts? :)

As far as I can see, the most likely candidates are: Strip Ball, Tackle, Guard and Mighty Blow (in no particular order). How do people like to distribute these? All the same, or one of each? Which are the "must" first-picks?

Anyone had any success with anything different? How about Sure Hands for a very handy runner?

IMO Guard & Tackle are the key skills - and I'd give both to all Blitzers.

Guard is vital to balancing S3 - and giving you a shot at taking on strength teams (my 3 Guarding blitzers & Ogres beat a 4 CW & Ogre Chaos team).

Tackle is a vitally important skill for taking down receivers.

Strip Ball I prefer to give to catchers (ideally with Dauntless) as they are a little bit more mobile.

Tackle/MB is a nice combo - but IMO Guard is more generally useful.

As 3rd skill I'd be looking at MB, Pass Block or Shadowing.

Doubles Stand Firm followed by Dodge. Dauntless I prefer to go on catchers.

I can't say I've ever tried sure hands, but then I use throwers to run the ball until pass to catchers/blitzers for the score.

ian pretty much said it all.

as a personal preference, i try to give different skills to each players as they progress. i have more fun having different guys good at different things, it also balances the team more evenly. there are a few exceptions to that, where some combinations are just too good to pass by. giving block/dodge to someone who already has one of the two is a good example, as is giving block a str4 basher.

tackle and guard are the main tool for blitzers. i would choose based on what kind of team you are facing. if you're playing a lot of strenght team, concentrate on guard. if you're playing elves, tackle will help you knock down those annoying blodgers.

mighty blow is a good complement to that. tackle and guard will help you knock someone down, mighty blow will help you make him stay there.

Dauntless with doubles. 2 with guard, tackle and m.blow. Not keen on strip ball anymore.

if you feel original, try shadowing/tackle with sidestep on a double, it can be nice ;)

Strip ball on a dauntless catcher is amazingly good. The movement gives you lots of options on defence, as just having him on the field makes the offence have to account for him all the time. Sadly, my human catcher aged and lost a point of agility.

I have only just started my human team (4 games).

My plan is to have 2 "defensive" Blitzers with Guard & hopefully Standfirm
(tackle as a 2nd skill if neither of the first 2 are a double)

& 2 "offensive" Blitzers with Tackle & Mighty Blow. (dauntless on doubles as
I have no plan for a an Ogre)

The idea of 2 types of Blitzer seemed to work well with both my Orcs & my 'Zons.
