Skill choices for Undead

Post by JarkkoH »

As this is my first team ever I have been asking a lot of questions about skill choices. And you guys have been very helpful, so here we go again.

Last game was easy and I gathered enough SPP's for four players to get their next skills. Zombie with MVP was easy, I took Tackle. But the next ones are not that straight forward.

Skill for first Wight is probably Strip Ball, but another option is Shadowing. What do you think, does Shadowing have place in Undead team? Or should I have two Strip Ball Wights and take Shadowing later? Oh, and we play by LRB 2.0, so I have four Wights :)

Another Wight then? With Dodge he could become a ball carrier, but then his Guard would be often useless. So I don't know.

For Ghoul I was thinking Pass Block, and as he already has +AG it could be good. But what other choices you recommend?

At the moment we have in our league six different elf teams (at least four Woodies) and two Skaven teams, the rest eight teams are hard hitting.

This is my team at the moment (Team rating 228, 5 RR, 14 FF):
Mummy: Block, Mighty Blow, Piling On, Regenerate
Mummy: Mighty Blow, Regenerate, Stand Firm
Wight: Block, Regenerate, Tackle, SKILL?
Wight: Block, Regenerate, Strip Ball, Tackle
Wight: Block, Guard, Regenerate, TRAIT?
Wight: Block, Regenerate, +ST
Ghoul: Block, Dodge, Side Step, Sure Hands, +MA
Ghoul: Block, Dodge, Side Step, +AG, SKILL?
Ghoul: Block, Dodge, Nerves of Steel
Ghoul: Dodge
Zombie: Block, Kick, Regenerate
Zombie: Block, Regenerate, Tackle
3 Zombies: Regenerate

Let me know what you think. Thanks in advance.

First of all, your team looks really nice, very good skill distribution :D !

I would choose the following skills:

1st Wight: Shadowing might not be so great because of only MA 6 and no Dodge. As I can see that you already have Strip Ball on another Wight I would go for Kick. I have done the same for one of my Wights and have never regretted it 8) ! As you play LRB 2.0 you could also still take Pro!

2nd Wight: Mmmm, this guy already has Guard... What do you think of Frenzy? It's great on both offense and defense, as your opponent always will be afraid to enter the wide zones. Frenzy can also get your Guard player in the middle of your opponent's players where he will be very annoying  !

Ghoul: I'd go for Diving Tackle! Block/Dodge/Side Step/Diving Tackel is one hell of a skill combination. You can't dodge away from him and with Side Step you can't blitz him off!

Hope this helps,

Tante Kaethe.

Are you using the old Piling On rules, and will you have to cut back on the Wights some time in the future?

Have you thought about getting Dirty Player on the Zombie instead of Tackle?

Yes, we use old Piling On etc. We decided not to change rules during the current league. We will use LRB3.0 when it is available.

About DP Zombie. I had one, but Skaven with Claws cut the poor thing into two pieces. I didn't even have time to move my player before he was dead and didn't regenerate...

Is MV 4 a little bit too restricting. He can't get far to kick prone players. Not a bad idea, though.

Well, if you're still using the old rules, and you plan on changing over after the season, go ahead and grab Pro on the Wights now.

Wight #1: I would give Strip ball. You can never underestimate the power of strip ball.

Wight #2: I would go with Pro. It's too good of a trait to pass up. That's why they made it a trait to begin with.

Ghoul: I would go with Pass Block. You don't have any intercepters yet. With the MA+ increase this would be the guy to do it. Also consider giving him catch as his next increase so that he gets a reroll on the intercept try.
His block/dodge combo will allow him to carry the ball after he intercepts it.

Hope this helps.

Another topic (Now that Pro is a trait...) had related discussion going on. It gave me some ideas.

I'll probably build my players like this:
- 1st Wight gets Pass Block, not Strip Ball as I will try it with a Ghoul.
- 2nd Wight gets Dodge.
- Ghoul gets Strip Ball, so then I have 2 Strip Ball players as one of the Wights already have that.
- Zombie gets Dirty Player.

After that I need more Guard and Tackle, I guess. And I hope to have one Ghoul with Diving Tackle as soon as possible...

Also one other Wight is only 1 SPP away from his third skill, so he will probably get Pass Block soon (I hope). That stupid Wight failed his Go For It-roll in the last game and fell to his face at the End Zone carrying the ball. Failed his ReRoll also, and it was my last turn.
