To be blocked off the pitch

Post by darthvincor »

It says in the rule book that you are only blocked off the pitch, if there are no other empty squares to be pushed to.

But how about the below situation:

X=player who is blocking
A,B=players assisting the block
D=enemy player being blocked
O=empty square
-----= side line

OOOOO
OXOOO
OADBO
---------

So, X is blocking D, with the help of A and B. The question is, will player D push B over and remain on the pitch or will player D simply be blocked off the pitch?
I hope it's latter or else I'll seriously start doubting my ability to understand this game. :D

player D gets pushed off the pitch as he doesnt have a valid square to be pushed into.

To be more precise... since the fact that the only square avaiable for the player to fall down is occuped, the blocker can chose where to make land the foe player.

Understanding that, the 99,99% of times you have a situation like that your interest is to push the other player off the pitch, but remember that you're not obliged. You can also choose to push away B and make D land in the square previously occuped. :)

This just for having a completely clear idea of the rule :wink:

@darthvincor - some people maintain that you can choose whether to push someone off the pitch or into another player. I don't believe this is the case (IMO the rule is quite clear) but be aware that someone may argue the point.

and also note that if the player you're hitting has side step the above is null and void :D

Its a classic GW wording things, but the LRB says "Players may only be pushed off the field..." as opposed to are. The 'may' suggests a choice, but it can well be argued the may is for 'under these circumstances...'

In the LRB3.o, it has benn made clear:
Players must be pushed off the field if there are no eligible empty squares on the field.
