1 idea for replacing MVP

Post by Pardus »

Kinda taken from the EXP system, but just used for replacing MVP
i'll call them training points (TP) replaces MVP (obviously)

If you see a problem or improvement on the idea please reply

1) _after_ every game roll 1d6 for every player on the team
1A) If the result is more than the player current TPs, the player TPs equal the result
1B) If the result is a 6 and players TPs are >5, the player is awarded 1 TP
2) as above except you halve the result and round it down
2A) same as 1A
2B) same as 1B except that it's if the TP's >2

So experience without the ageing?

The problem with experience was that is was far too fiddly. People didn't want to roll a dozen dice at the end of the game for a couple of measly spps.

kinda, except EXP only increased by 1 if it was higher value, which was it's flaw (as i understood it) because it didn't give a needed boost to a starting player, tho MVP doesn't really either because it can land on the same player 5 games running (i've seen it)

P.S house rule not intened for anyone elses game, just wanting balence feedback mainly

It has always seemed to me that the easiest (and seemingly balanced) way to do 1pt MVPS is just to give out five of them after the match. TR grows at the same rate though players get their first skill more slowly. Easier to roll five dice (or pick five chits) than to roll 16d6.

I would think under this system the bashy teams are going to dominate early in the league.

Player that develop slowly like Longbeards are going to get to their first skill much earlier than normal and virtually across the board.

The short answer is "no", but it is a qualified "no" because there are odd ways of interpreting the question which could justify the answer "yes".

Something similar has been tried before and playtested IIRC. It's simply too complicated. I'd rather go with that 5 SPPs randomly distributed amongst players after a game since I personally don't like the current MVP-ruling (though I actually don't care much about it).

Reroll MVPs

Post by Bevan »

Game mechanics make it essential that the MVP points are distributed randomly, not to players who gain points in the game and not to a preferred player.

The only change I'd like to see is to allow a reroll on the MVP roll. If the MVP goes to a player who you really don't want to get the MVP you would be allowed to ask for the MVP to be rerolled (one reroll only of course).

thank you munkey for actual imput that i was looking for...

to the rest of you... this is not going to be in a league you are going to be playing in... it's called house rules... not new concepts...

i personally dont see the problem with the MVP award as it is, it is a good way to gain skills early in team development and is a good source of SSp for certain players who struggle to gain points from other sources

It would dis advantage the elves (relativly). One of their strengths is to score with any (and every!) player, spreading skills quickly during the early stage.

It would help Necro and Mummie teams with a large number of cheap linemen relativly early. They would normally take forever rather than 2-3 game to get a skill.

i think number 2 might be the better idea after munkey and duff's replies...

for those who are too lazy to do the maths
1 = 0
2&3 = 1
4&5 = 2
6 = 3

the problem i have with MVP's most of the time it doesn't do shit for the non skilled players, it usually lands on a select few who just sky rocket spp's because of 1, 2 or 3 skills they got just from MVP's

1st ed rules was that every player once on a pitch got 1 SPP. It was farther between skills than presently.

I do however like the MVP system a lot which brings in enough randomness to satisfy me.

I personally think MVP is great and it's very popular among my players. Experience points seems to favour teams with greater longevity as MVP offers the chance of early skills for rookie teams.
