1) rusty damadged
I was wondering how you paint damaged, rusty parts of armour.
the way it looks more used.

I've seen some realy good work of it from norse and from squiggoth
how do you do it?

how you paint human skin?
I can highlight it with white but shadowing mostly just doesn't look good..

1) Paint the armour as normal. Overpaint any dents \ damaged patches in black, then highlight up to boltgun metal / chainmail depending upon preference, leaving a black rim around the damage.
For rust, just wash with a dilute chestnut ink and then a light drybrush of metallic over the top.

2) Pick a skin tone to start with. Wash with flesh wash. start highlighting with the original flesh tone, and keep highlighting with lighter tones.
I prefer a bronzed flesh start, highlighting to a mix of bf & elf flesh. However, I did get a good result with a tanned flesh start, highlighting to bronzed flesh for a more sweaty, florid look

Hi,
The trick for me with human skin is NOT being afraid to highlight up to a pure white, chalky affect. Then REALLY water down some brown ink to a "glaze" and add ONE drop of dish soap. Wash this really thinned ink onto the flesh and amazingly the shadows will deepen and the chalky highlights will smooth out. It may take more than one coat of wash, just make sure it's very thin on ink. It's a lot easier to do multiple coats rather than one thick one. The dish soap evens out the solution and allows the pigment to flow into the shadows. Watered down ink w/o soap actually tends to form blotches on the highlights and NOT flow into the creases.

rusty armour can be easy.
A) paint black base. highlight with boltgun metal colour and progress to silve highlight B) apply 50% ink 50% water mix of brown ink. can look great and simple. if need extra aged feel highlight again and 2nd wash even thinner maybe 20% colour.

i did say can be easy with four coats but pro style controlled brass is way harder than this. try it on a test fig pretty quick which is always a bonus
