The Colour of Bases?

Post by Raven »

What's the best colour paint for bases? I'm not talking about the top of the base, the textured part, but rather I mean the side.

I try to get a good solid green paint but Goblin green seems too dark and Snot Green is too neon-bright. I ended up using an 'apple green' paint i bought in a craft store but it's so watery I have to put about four or five coats and that means the side of the base is no longer smooth.

Any suggestions?

Goblin green works for me and most others.

the one that suits your taste.
i actually prefer relatively dark green bases, but if you like them brighter, you could just mix in a little yellow into that goblin green to get the right result.

always rim ;)
I always go for classy black edge looks great on all figs imho. I have tried a matching colour for grass/astrogranite/mud etc but rekon black gives a better edge. Dont forget BB figs can also have numbers painted on base which helps to game on with

agree completely.
i find that a nice black edge adds a good contrast and puts the focus on the model and basing.

Nah, you want to colour-code them according to position (to dredge up an old discussion topic   ).

I paint the base rings of my dark elves as follows:

Line-elves: goblin green
Blitzers: red
Throwers: white
Witch elves: purple

Admittedly, I'm different because I run a different sort of league but I quite like to co-ordinate the rim with the team colour as it gives a unified feel. This works especially well with the pink team in my league.

goblin green or colour coded to positions...

I do think Black looks better though, so I usually do that for my coaching staff, cheerleaders etc etc

Scorched brown looks OK, but black is best IMO.

Paint numbers on the bases and colour code them, rather than colour the entire ring and then make the model look terrible...

Color coding, but if you're against that I would say black.
