Why Booster Packs?

Post by lineman »

Why do GW create these Booster Packs for every team? They almost never include the miniatures you need.
Some examples: The Wood Elf booster pack contains a wardancer, a thrower, a catcher and a lineman. But if you have bought the boxed team, you already have two wardancers, and Wood Elf cannot hire more than two. A more logic booster pack for Wood Elf would be three linemen and a catcher, because you need ten linemen for the standard wood elf starting team, and you will probably buy a third cathcer before a second thrower.
And when you buy a Necromatic team, you get both the two whights you'll need. But they have put another whight in the booster pack, and still says it's "The perfect pack for upgrading your new Necromancer Team or to update your current team." I think it would have been perfect if they had replaced the whight with another zombie.
This is the case for almost every team. Why don't they create more useful booster packs?

The battle wages on...
We were told once upon a time that they were going to be changing the boosters so that they were more approptiate but seems as if that has been forgotten.
The wiser of us BBers buy everything by bitz.

I know what your are saying with the unneeded models, I've got my fair share. But the necro team booster has a Flesh Golum, Werewolf, weight and two zombies for about 12 dollars US cheaper then if I was to buy them seperate. So it was cheaper and I've got a weight to convert into a coach. If you need alot more linemen I've found it cheaper to just buy another box. Plus all the extras give you a chance to modify a model without the fear of it being your only one. Elf body parts on bases and in big guys hands all bloody look cool too.

I'd just like to be able to order individual models from the GW website for a sensible price (none of this twice the price because he's a star). And see pictures of the actual figure unpainted rather than some tiny shot of two or three random figures assembled and painted.

The short answer is "no", but it is a qualified "no" because there are odd ways of interpreting the question which could justify the answer "yes".

I wasn't aware of this problem up to now.
I have only bought two boosters for my Lizardmen team and for the lizards it works out just fine.
