Rivermen

Post by lineman »

Let me try to start with some fluff:

On both sides of the Mary's River deep in the Lustrian Jungle, a strong and agile woman named Mary a long time ago founded a small villiage called River City. Because the people who live here sometimes have to throw things over the river, they have become excellent at very long passes. The Rivermen are also very good at genetics, and when needed, they can clone a copy of their loved founder.

And their Blood Bowl team:

Code: Select all

0-12 Linemen 50 000 5 3 3 8 (General skills)
0-2 Throwers 70 000 5 3 3 7 Sure hands, Hail Mary (General and passing skills)
0-4 Catchers 80 000 7 2 3 7 Catch, Diving Catch (General and agility skills)
0-2 Cloned Mary Blitzers 110 000 6 4 4 7 (General skills)

Re-rolls: 60 000
Because there is currently no team that start with hail mary and diving catch, I think a team with this kind of throwers and catchers are needed. The blitzers may be very good with both ST 4 and AG 4, but they have neither block nor dodge, so they are easy to knock down. And with only AV 7 they will probably be fouled pretty soon. If this team needs a big guy, they may use the Kroxigor, as their Lizardmen friends.

"because they sometimes have to throw things over the river"

This made me smile for some reason! :D But don't they have boats or a bridge? If not, aren't they actually two villages? These are important questions, and on behalf of the waiting BB community, I demand answers! :)

Sure Nazgit, when Boolu the jeweler finishes the ring for Jolo's wedding. He unties the boat, gets out the oars, rows like a madman to beat the current. Hands off the box, gets back in the boat, pulls out the oars, rows like a madman to beat the current, tired this time.

Or he puts it on the barge, waits for the barge to leave, watches people pulling on the ropes for the minutes it takes to get the hulking thing across the fast moving river.

Or he could hand the box to a "thrower" who throws the box the 30+ feet to a "catcher", who hands the box to Jolo and says congratulations.

I choose c, Thank u very much.

Lovely fluff. :D

Isn't "River City" a rather grandiose name for a small village? Methinks these Rivermen have ideas above their station... I reckon those Rivermen oughta stick to throwin' things, and leave the highflautin' names out of it.

I think the post from sean newboy had a very good answer to this. :) There is a bridge over the river too, but it's a bit far from the village. They had to build the village at the place with most fish. But the real question is, who was Mary? Some people say she was an amazon, who for some reason left (or was chased away by) the other amazons. But other people say that she came from another world, far, far away. What is true, is that most rivermen look at Mary as a god. Once a year, they celebrate the Mary's day, where everybody have free from work, and they can eat as much fish as they want!

Ah, but this leads to the question:

Which came first: the bridge or the village?

Sounds like a chicken and egg situation to me...

Not really, because the brige was build on a narrow site of the river and the city-village at the place with the most fish.

btw:
I really like the idea of the team and also the stats looks quite good. I guess all the other people see it the same way, as they only complain about the fluff... :P

0-12 Linemen 50 000 5 3 3 8 (General skills)
0-2 Throwers 70 000 5 3 3 7 Sure hands, Hail Mary (General and passing skills)
0-4 Catchers 80 000 7 2 3 7 Catch, Diving Catch (General and agility skills)
0-2 Cloned Mary Blitzers 110 000 6 4 4 7 (General skills)

Re-rolls: 60 000
???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Let me look at this. Objectively.

I can take humans instead maybe right? Position by position.

50k human linemen are 6 3 3 8 gen. 50 k river line 5 3 3 8 gen
1pt move for free. ( got to go humans for that. )

70k human thrower 6 3 3 8 pass sure hands. (pass chart + gen)
70 k river throw 5 3 3 7 sure hands, hail mary (pass chart + gen)
a point of move + a point of armor + pass (reroll skill) compared to hail mary? Humans again. (1st skill human takes hail mary, riverguy takes pass they wash skills then stats rule )

70 k human catchers 8 2 3 7 catch, dodge (agility chart + gen)
80 k river catch 7 2 3 7 catch, diving catch (agility chart + gen)
10k less, +1 move and dodge (re-roll skill AND block die modifier on defense) compared to diving catch... Humans again. (1st skill human takes DC and river takes dodge- skills wash, cheaper cost and stats rule)

90k human blitzer 7 3 3 8 Block (strenght chart + gen)
110k mary lady 6 4 4 7 gen.
Not to mention that humans get 4 blitzers compared to two Mary(s)....

Mary trades a movement and an armor for strength boost and ag boost. And also Gets to pay 20k more per besides losing block does not get the strenght chart?????????????

I'm going to go humans again. Factor in the re-rolls being 10 k more I do not see it. You are on the right track and I aplaud the steps you've taken but I think you are not quite done with it yet if you did not want to create a 2nd tier team. (2nd tier might be too strong a term for these guys too. At least flings cost 30k....)

Wardancers are 120k. 8 3 4 7 block dodge leap (ag + gen)
Mary is 110k. 6 4 4 7 (gen)
Chaos warrior 110k 5 4 3 9 (st gen mutations)

Wardancer everyday. 2 points of move AND block dodge leap (plus ag chart) for 10k more over a Strength boost? I'll trade in a strength boost on nearly every player with more than 2 ag out there for the ability to get block dodge and leap. Hell I've got some two ag pieces in mind as well.

At 6 move Mary does not out run anyone enough to make the difference between av 7 and 9 of the CW. Sure the 4 ag is "nice" but balanced with ST chart, mutations, and the afore mentioned armor bust...
Chaos Warrior.

Plus taking in the aspect of the team What does Mary do? Sh needs Block to be a blitzer, any scoring skills are doubles from ag chart.

Sorry, I just do not see it. The extra TR put into a human team to get hail mary and diving catch on the team is well worth the differences in each piece to me.

Okay, the team really reminds of...

"Evil Nuns & Vampires!"

Code: Select all

0-12 Evil Nuns 40 000 5 3 3 8 (Gen)
0-2 Evil Nun Throwers 60 000 5 3 3 8 Sure Hands, Hail Mary Pass (Gen & Pass)
0-4 Evil Nun Catchers 70 000 7 2 3 7 Catch, Diving Catch (Gen & Ag)
0-2 Female Vampires 110 000 6 4 4 7 Hypnotic Gaze (Gen, Ag & St)

Re-rolls: 60 000
Humans, but...
They're slower because of the robes & vestments.
More expensive Re rolls, because they're Eeeeeeeeevvvillllll...
The vamp loses a point of armour because she's a lady.

Now you could make a nice team with the Shadowforge minis and the GW female vampire. 8)

OK.

That helps a ton.

Dropping 10k from the linemen puts them back on par with human pricing.
I'd rather have human linemen, but for this price you can affored the extra cost on re-rolls to start.

Dropping 10k and adding the point of AV makes these throwers more buyable. I might suggest putting NOS on the Throwers as well for 10k more. But where they are now is ok.

Catchers - still not quite there. These catchers do not dodge and are move busted for the 70k. How about we add Nerves of Steel? The lesser skill set and lack of Dodge would make these girls just a touch more focused on the ball even if it went into tackle zones.

Mary. Adding Hyp Gaze and the two charts makes the piece more justify it's cost. But I'm still not seeing this piece as the "focal" of the team (especially with the Hail Mary pass / diving catch combo) - but have NO idea what her role is. Maybe adding Leader on her as well would make a difference?

you've done a good job... it's important to make them underpowered first

add 1 point of movement to all positions, and they'd be better (dur!) and still not over powered...

OK. +1 movement will make the linemen similar to human linemen, which sounds logical, as Rivermen are humans too. Throwers get +1 armour, and both Throwers and Catchers get Nerves of steel. The cost of the blitzers is decreased. It's tempting to let Mary start with block too, but that may be too good, and doesn't fit the fluff I think about Mary. :) Mary was a strong and agile woman, but she wasn't skilled in a specific direction. She was good at everything, but not an expert at anything.
But I guess most people will choose block as first skill for Mary, and then she will look more like a normal (but better) blitzer.

Code: Select all

0-12 Linemen 50 000 6 3 3 8 (General skills)
0-2 Throwers 80 000 6 3 3 8 Sure hands, Hail Mary, Nerves of steel (General and passing skills)
0-4 Catchers 90 000 8 2 3 7 Catch, Diving Catch, Nerves of steel (General and agility skills)
0-2 Cloned Mary Blitzers 100 000 7 4 4 7 (General skills)

Re-rolls: 60 000
Rivermen are close friends to Lizardmen, therefore, I think this rule may work:

Every starplayer and big guy that will play for Lizardmen will also play for Rivermen. In addition, they can have the following star player:
Boolu "Longbomb" Current 6 3 4 8 Sure hands, Hail Mary Pass, Nerves of Steel, Pass, Strong Arm, Block, Sure Feet

Lineman.

Thanks for taking my views into consideration.

I think these guys are ready for playtesting.

PM me if you want to put a game or two together..... I'll even coach them this way.
