My boyfriend discovered a method which works well; half dettol and half water, and soak overnight. For metal, neat dettol is better.

Advice on stripping plastic figs please.

make sure you get proper dettol though. I got dettol floor cleaner by mistake and it has hardly any pine oil in (the stuff in th much-praised Pinesol).
I ended up wasting an entire bottle of dettol floor cleaner that way.
Isn't brake fluid immensely harmful if you get it on your skin? Not saying that Nitromors isn't though...

Isn't break fluid just some kind of alcohol? Shouldn't be harmful.
For metal minis, I highly recommend acetone. Cheap and reusable. Soak them, then brush them off with a toothbrush. The minis can soak in it for month without suffering damage (apart from a slight discolouring effect after week 2). Acetone will dehydrate unprotected skin; wearing gloves or rubbing some kind of oil on your hands before handling the minis puts a stop to that.
Using acetone and a toothbrush on plastics will give a nice texturing effect on the surface of the mini - great if you want to make hairy gnolls out of Bretonnian Bowmen...

For plastic I've used both Pine-Sol and Simple Green. I tend to get much better results with Simple Green, especially on metal...not as good as "real stripper" good, but good for when you need to mix a batch of metal and plastic.

Anything I say is totally opinion and (knowing my luck) probably completely wrong. Keep this in mind.
