tournament using 3rd edition rules

Post by ESP »

Hi people !

A new league is created using the good old 3rd edition rules (no big guys but star players and old fouling and armors rules).

My team is

3 Bolgrot troll blockers (450 000 gp)
4 Black orcs (320 000gp)
3 Lineman (150 000gp)
1 Gob (40 000gp)
4 FF (40 000gp)
no reroll

I won with this team 3 years ago what do u think about it?
My first match will be against a skaven team so 11 players and no apo isn't really a prob for the first match.

No reroll can be a pain in the ass at the beginning (until I got a leader) but last time I used this team it wasn't a problem (putting usualy half of the other team KO/BH by the first half helps a lot ;-)

What would u change?
The dead zone sytem will be used (cards and all the rules that were in use at this time)

I don't think this is a legal 3rd ed team either.

Get Blitzers instead of Black Orks
They are better players.
You got enough ST allready.
When buying starplayers go for Morg and at least one Varag for a leaderreroll and some nice skills.
Morg is a way better Star than Ripper especially at TTM. Besides Ripper lack Block which is a serious problem without rerolls.

Start off with only 2 starplayers.
Rerolls cost double once the league is going.
Starplayers don't.
Get 2 (or 1 + leader) rerolls and a thrower instead for ballhandling.
Consider a Chainsaw (Nobbla) for fouling until you get a Dirty Player.
You are rigth about sparing that Apo.
But get him ASAP, you do not like to pay for Morg twice.

Morg 190K
Varag 160K
3 Blitzers 240K
1 Thrower 70K
4 Linemen 200K
1 Gobbo 40K
1 Reroll 60K
4 FF 40K

Orc is one of the best races for 3rd ed.
You can get Morg and cheap linemen to foul the crap out of your opponent.
Do a foul in every turn.

Thank you every body for ur opinion on that question !

Totaly agree that orcs using 3rd are one of the best (if not the best) team available. Using dead zone rules it's legal to have several time the same stars. I was hesitating to go for Morg but he's expensive and I'll may'be face skaven teams starting with 2 TailRipper so I was afraid having 'only' one 6 ST guy. Shouldn't I?

I have to reserve one star slot for boomer the gob star player cause last time I played with this team he was the best way to get rid of other teams star players (putting them to ground so tht I can fool them like hell).

The Dead zone rules are really really violent so I don't expect facing elven team (u have to be mad to play elves in such an environnement) and elven starplayers suck. However after some matches dwarven teams with 4 death rollers could be a big big threat !!!

Last time I played I had the chance to play against dwarven teams before they get that strong. Have u any ideas (besides boomer) to deal with them?

thx

Headsplitter is not to worry about.
You have got 1 ST6 1 ST4 and 3 ST3 all with block.
He only got his Stormvermins with block.
If you can't get 2 dice blocks on his ratogres then go for one dice blocks with block.
They will go down 1/2 the time.
Strength is not all that matters.

For the deathrollers use "suicideattacks":
2 dice blocks against you with block.
You just have to knock them down to take them out of the game.
And remember their 7+ penaltyroll.
