I thought his English was good, and I was quite insulted by Gus' personal attack on me.

@kithor
i didn't insult anyone, although i did flame alex for his lame (see, i do it again) comment.

@alex
your explanations and reasonning are plain stupid. so, the word is in the lrb ? big deal. the point isn't that the word was easy or not to know, it's the fact that you had nothing more interesting to do than post to make fun of someone mispelling a word.

you wanna play about who's spelling the best ? it's supposed to be "Gus's personal attack". should we spend most of the posts in this forum correcting each other's spelling instead of staying on-topic ? or just pass on the few typos and/or mispellings one might write, and act in a mature way ?

Ha ha, that's brilliant, because it's actually Gus' (you were mucking about right?!). So what if I had nothing better to do than to laugh at other people's mistakes (it was quite a big error). That is not a reason to flame me, which I would like to point out is against the Code of Conduct of this forum. Maybe it wasn't that funny, but what is funny is someone trying to correct someone else's spelling (it's grammar actually) and getting it so very wrong.

@alexelf - laughing at people you don't know is bad form. Please don't do it. Popol has a low post count, and I'm sure you don't know anything about him. For all you know, he might be dyslexic or have suffered a traumatic experience in childhood that means he is unable to spell treasury. Take the piss out of regular posters who have an established posting style, by all means, but wait until you have a "relationship" with them. :D

Let's here no more on the matter from anyone.

And what about the topic?

Maybe it's better talk about bloodbowl 8) and have fun... and not make any drama about someones "typo".

what is brilliant is that you're a native and don't know that the 's is only suppressed when it's after a plural noun. when a singular noun ends with a S or Z, the possessive 's stays. ask any teacher of yours about that.

I believe that because Gus is a Proper Noun, alexelf is actually correct.

As a point of etiquette, it would perhaps have been better for him to have laughed at the spelling but followed it up with a comment on the subject at hand. There are times when spelling errors need to be pointed out, there is one particular English speaking poster who joined fairly recently and has poor command over spelling and grammar. Due to this, his posts are very difficult to read.

On Topic, Popol's query doesn't seem to have a definitive answer. Fractions are not dealt with under the official rules so a local house ruling will have to be made. Most people would consider that rounding down occurs to SPPs and Treasury separately. SPPs are explicitly dealt with by rounding down, Treasury is not but it seems appropriate to do so. I would advocate rounding separately and would do so for my interpretation but I can't say I have firm views that I would defend if a strong counter-argument was put forward.

I'll remember that for next time MLA

I think 'Gus's' may also be correct, but so is 'Gus' ' and whichever is used depends on style. With names s' is definately used for 'us' and 'es' names; Jesus' disciples etc, that's why I used it for Gus.

Yet again Gus has to resort to a (this time highly racist) personal attack. Gus, you don't actually know me, and I'm beginning to find you more and more offensive. <leaves topic to let people solve Popol's problem>

me, highly racist ? lol :) that's gotta be the best joke i've ever heard... i just pointed out that laughing at anyone's spelling or grammar was really a bad idea, because i know no one who writes perfectly well on any discussion board. especially when the board is used by people who weren't born in english-speaking countries.

I would recommend you round components dwon separtely, rounding down at the end doesn't make any sense, and could lead to complicated calculations.

You called me a native, I pointed out this is a racist remark, which I find offensive. You owe me an apology.

at one point this discussion stops being funny (it's getting ridiculous)
why should the description "native" be an offence?
it gets an offence if YOU think of native persons as uncultured, stupid domestics. i dont think anyone here does think this way, does anyone?

first, i was referring to "native" as a "native speaker", not as a "racial" (this word cannot even apply to human beings) or cultural distinction.
second, i fail to see where it is an insult to call someone a native when referring to those "racial" or cultural distinction. you're the one being racist by saying it is an insult.

edit: i might add you should go to http://webster.commnet.edu/grammar/possessives.htm to see that it's an effect of style not to add the 's after proper nouns ending in s or z, but that the most official rules of grammar you can find state it must be there.
