That does seem to be a widely held impression but I'd be surprised if it was accurate. Blocks in BB do correspond to blocks in American football, on the line of scrimmage it may not look spectacular but in open field an American football block is exactly the same as a BB block.Hache wrote:I don't know american football, but I think block in BB and american football arent not the same thing. Block in BB is more like "you, get the right arm, you the left, I bash him 3 or 4 times, and you release him" IMHO.
Idea for block assists

So you know what a BB block is ? congratulationsMadLordAnarchy wrote:is exactly the same as a BB block.

Seriously, I think BB block is not only a "get out of my way", but also a "hey you ! stay where you are so I can come and kick your ass while two friends prevent you from hitting me in return !". Not a block, but a fight. A real unfair fight. But it's only my opinion, I don't expect everyone to see it as a general fight on pitch will some elves try to save their ass and get the ball. Definitely not a sport !

That's how many people view it but it was clarified for me by the possible results on the block dice as they correspond to the outcomes in American football. The pushback result is a common feature of blocking in American football, particularly on the line of scrimmage and it is not something that you see in a fight very often.
The reason that people see it as a fight IMHO is that the game itself is physically stationary. I am happy with seeing it as a dynamic sports-based game as that is the genre I am interested in. Chaos League represents blocking in the fighting sense but that game doesn't use the dynamic blocking that my American football loving brain visualises.

well, for example, under your suggestion,
the absolute best a ST 3 player (which is most players) could do with maximum assists is only one dice against a treeman like Deeproot.
It basically means that a player with higher strength will get an advantage, even in the face of more opponents... Strength is even more important then it was, because there is less ability to netrualise it.
Now i play halfling and choas... it'd come out even on the halfling teams... the flings would be weaker then before but the trees a lot stronger... but my choas team would rock... even more then they do now. (especailly as i have 5 ST4 players and 2 ST5 players... and 10 players come with a built-in assist.
