Orc expertise needed
Hi I'm quite new to this game and got my ar** handed to me in my first game (orc (me) vs. undead)..
My next game is vs. pure elf.. We're just testing stuff out, to get me into the game, so I'm doing a new team again - still orc though..
Of these 4 team rosters, which one would you prefer using against pure elf?
1 troll 100
2 bob 160
3 blitz 240
1 gob 40
1 throw 70
3 line 150
3 reroll 180
6 fan 60
1 troll 100
2 bob 160
4 blitz 320
2 gob 80
1 throw 70
1 line 50
2 reroll 120
9 fan 90
3 bob 240
3 blitz 240
1 throw 70
4 line 200
3 reroll 180
7 fan 70
3 bob 240
1 throw 70
5 line 250
3 blitz 240
2 rerolls 120
8 fan 80
The last team is what I used last. I was quite unlucky with my armour rolls and got a player sent off in round 3 of half 1..
Trolls and goblins - are they worth it. Goblins look like they would splatter against a wide defense, and therefore are only good for throwing - but then you need that braindead troll..

Pretty new to this myself, and only really played humies, but my recommendation ( for all that its worth ) is as many Black Orcs as possible, with as many Blitzers as possible as well. I like hitting them, you see......

I'd go for as many blitzers as possible, so 4. You need the speed and the Block to take down runaway elves. 2 throwers, in case one gets hurt. As long as you're actually HOLDING the ball, he will have difficulties taking it from you.
2 re-rolls should be enough, and no troll.
4 Blitzers 320
2 throwers 140
4 Bobs 320
2 RR 120
either 1 Lino for 50 or 1 gobbo for 40.
FF 5 or 6

Beginning orcs I would drop the troll. Orcs don't need to rely on the Throw Team Mate play to score so you can still use Gobbos w/out the big guy. Gobbos are amazingly adept at getting assists in key places with Stunty and Dodge they can move thru lines better than anything else on the team and usually on the field. Unfortunately they are squishy and if your not used to using them well they will be gone in a heartbeat. Your starting roster will depend on how many games you will be playing with them. If your only playing this one game against elves than FF plays little importance and I would sacrifice FF. If this is for a league than don't go any lower than FF7. With MV 5 throwers two on the starting lineup would help greatly against elves. Otherwise if they kick where your thower cant get to then they will jump thru your line and sneak in a quick td. For this reason I would suggest the following lineups:
For a league situation that will go for awhile:
3 Bobs
2 Blitz
2 Throwers
4 Line
3 RR
8 FF
If it is a very bash heavy league with few agi teams I would suggest dropping a thrower and 1 FF, and adding another Bob or Blitzer.
For a short term league or just a single game:
4 Bobs
3 Blitz
2 Throwers
2 Line
3 RR
2 FF

orc team
I am still astounded when someone suggests to have 5 lineman on an orc roster, that is crazy as they do not have any skills. NO orc team should ever have more than 3 lineman. What you want to do is take the most skilled players from early on to advance them. With orc teams you can get away with starting with only 11 players then the recommended 12 because of their high armor and you can pick up a cheap lineman after the first game.
4 blitzers
4 black orcs
2 throwers
1 lineman
2 rerolls
6 ff
your key players are here and you just add the crappy lineman, the troll and some gobbos

Something I have tried is the "No LM Orc team". There are 10 positions on the roster, and a Troll. Sooner or later, all LM will be extras anyway, so I don't buy them from the start:
4 BoBs
3 Blitzers
1 Thrower
3 Goblins
3 RR
7FF
I like to start with as many BoBs as possible, to increase the chance that they'll get the MVPs and can learn Block asap.

As its a one off game I'd go
3 BOBs
4 Blitzers
1 Thrower
2 Goblins
3 Line Orcs
3 RR
1 FF
That ought to give you the strength and power to overwhelm him.
In a league I'd never recommend starting the team with more than one or two linemen. Once you've maxed out positionals you'll rarely play them anyway.
A very long term league roster might look like
1 Troll
4 BOBs
4 Goblins
1 Thrower
1 Blitzer
9 FF
3 RR
That means the players that are slowest to develop (BOBs & the Troll) are in from the beginning, increasing their chances of getting MVPs and other SPPs.
Goblins are surprisingly good at low TRs. Not too many teams can really hurt them easily, but later on when there are a few Block/Tackle/Mighty Blow players they die easily. When they do you are replacing them with blitzers and maybe one or two of them will get good (lucky skill rolls) and you always want one for the option of the TTM score.
