"How to sculpt fire" article - Black Gobbo 19

Post by Chairface »

This is a great article that just came out in Black Gobbo 19:

http://us.games-workshop.com/games/warh ... efault.htm

I don't know how much of an effect that this article will have on BB modeling, but I'm sure someone out there can get some use out of it. I know that I will.

Thank you for the link!
I´ve searched the web for sites with instructions on sculpting with greenstuff but just found one or two..
If you can give me some more I will be very thankful.
I just startet using greenstuff - a little bit here and there. I can see how I am improving, but it is a long way I think. Someday there will be my own creation of a unique BB miniature - I hope so. A step by step guideline for some easy sculpts would be very usefull to me. My last attempt on sculpting was the repositioning of the arms of my Khemri Mummies. The bandages were quite easy to build, but I think this is more gap-filling than sculpting.
Even sculpting a ball isn´t that easy. I use Greenstuff and Milliput standard - are there any others recommendet?
btw: do you want to see some pics of my mummies to evaluate my work?
I am now working on a Star Player for my Khemri team, there is a lot to do. It is a mini from Reaper and he is going to look totally different when i´m finished.

Time is money, and I don´t have either. :-?

Some more links for you, Bonehead. Maybe you will knew one or more of them already ?

Interesting article. Probably not something you'll use on your linemen, but there are bloodbowl related uses for it. I used the putty method on two of my goblins. One's a wizard conjuring a fireball, the other's a bombardier with a flaming torch to light his bomb.

Note that the method in the painting section suggests painting the flame going from orange at the centre to yellow at the edge, which is the wrong way round. Flames should go from lightest at the centre to darkest at the edges.

uhuh, but for some reason the wrong way around looks more realistic...

Great article by the way!

Hi bonehead. Glad you liked the article. I just use greenstuff myself, more out of habit than anything else. If I see anymore good green stuff articles I'll post them. And I would be more than happy to see you mummies.

OK
Here are the first pics of my mummies:
Image
In the top row are the original ones and below the ones I´ve converted.
I´ll show you some better pics, when I´ve finished painting them (the gold sucks!). My Reaper mummy is still in its first steps of conversion work so some pics of him later.
Maybe I finish my painting tomorrow.

Thanks to Traveller for the links. Some interesting stuff there

Hi:

What do you use to recover the base? It looks like some kind of sand but with very little grains...

I don´t know if I get this wrong, but these are Blood Bowl mummies.
Conserning the sand: It is indeed fine sand I store in a small bucket on the top of my BB shelf since years now. I use it for all my minis and I hope it will never be used up. I just filled the gaps on the bases with putty and glued it on top.

For very little grains you can you also some birdcage sand. Not expensive and very fine sand !

Sorry I didn´t finish painting my mummies today but I think they will be finished tomorrow(if it is not tomorrow, yet). Just some last corrections to apply to them. I have now four mumies and Ramtut nearly finished. You can have a look at them in a few ours.
Last night I couldn´t finish them because I needed them to crush some ugly orcs. I won 2:0 btw 8)
In our leage we still use most of the 3rd ed. rules. The best as I think. We are just 5-6 players but we enjoy every match. What about your leages, would be very interesting to me or is this the wrong category for posts like that?
