I have provided some background on the RCN below... I don't really feel I am in a position to do the equivalent for the NBA.
"As everyone knows, the game of Blood Bowl orginated as a ritual in honour of the lost god Nuffle. Whilst this fact may have been obscurd among the general mayhem that is the game we know and love, Nuffle himself has never been forgotten. He is known to keep a careful eye on every game of Blood Bowl that is played, from the lowliest tribal leeg to the final of the Blood Bowl itself! After all, thesy are being played for his amusement! Of course, as with any deity, all sorts of theological debates arise as to Nuffle's true nature. Many believe that he is all-powerful, and is responsible for everything that happens on the field of play. That every successful play is a result of his blessing; every trip, slip or fumble his curse. Only Nuffle decides who is worthy of scoring that last minute touchdown..
The Blood Bowl world is a cruel and violent place. A place where men need to believe in something greater than themselves; that their lives are not ruled by indiscriminate chance alone. So it is common for those involved in the game to look to Nuffle for aid in trying times. The name of Nuffle is praised when events are favourable, and cursed when they are not. Prayers to Nuffle are offered up by players and fans alike, desperate for their team to succeed. The bitterly defeated whisper oaths against him in hidden corners.
As with all religious belief, there are always those eager to take it just that little bit too far. Some decide to dedicate their whole lives to the worship of Nuffle, offering prayers to him throughout the day, and collecting vast amounts of religious paraphenalia in his honour. The production of dubious icons of Nuffle and "roze-el-ry beads" has, in some regions, doubled the demand for Goblin slave labour! Then there are the fanatics; those who take their worship of Nuffle very seriously indeed. Every Blood Bowl match these days seems to have at least one foamy-mouthed lunatic demanding that all reflect upon Nuffle's glory. Although the most notable impression these characters tend to leave is that praising Nuffle clearly does not involve regular bathing.
Over the years, many Nuffle-worshipping cults have sprung up and eventually fallen by the wayside. No such organisation was ever taken very seriously by the Blood Bowl-ing community. That all changed with the Reformed Church of Nuffle. Welding together several smaller cults, the charismatic leader Thadrin declared his coven the only true worshippers of Nuffle, and set about adding all the lesser Nuffle cults to his organisation. Within ten years he had succeeded in this mission, and the RCN (if you're into the whole brevity thing) became the single recognised organisation of bizarre Nufflian religious lunatics.
Of course, there is only one way to demonstrate a devotion to Nuffle - and that is to play some Blood Bowl! Teams made up of Nufflian fanatics had always existed, but were few and poorly organised. The RCN have changed all that, and it is now a common sight to see their teams at tournaments all over the Old World. RCN players spend most of their time praying and chanting to Nuffle, even on the pitch. They say that they are blessed by the god, as his most devoted worshippers, and it is true that they seem to have an uncanny ability to be in the right place at the right - wriggling past tackles and avoiding punches at the last second. RCN teams are never the best equipped - a life of abstinence devoting one's time only to the splendour of Nuffle tends not to leave much petty cash when it comes to buying things like armour. In truth, they tend to rely mostly on the psychotic Zealots; Nufflians driven to a fevour by all those heathens who just can't see how great Nuffle really is."
[Note - this is meant to be a fun thing for us to contribute to or not as we see fit. Since this isn't in TOT, can we try to play it at least partially out of character?
