At last, my Norse!

Post by Darkweaver »

Here's my starting team for the incoming league:

- 3 Blitzers
- 2 Catchers
- 1 Thrower
- 55 Linemen
- 3 ReRolls
- 9 Fan Factor

I'm not SO sure about the high FF, most of my opponents are going to have 1, and this will let me one player or apo short, and I also noticed that with FF 10 I'll start having a -1 of the table.

Yesterday I had my first game with dwarfs. It's been a really thight game, with the stunties managing to lay their feet on my half of the pitch only for 2 turns of the game, but I was totally unable to pick up the ball during all the game. I managed to get a victory thanks to a Berserker who entered two TZs, took the ball, got out and GFI in the end zone, in the 7th of the 2nd half... :P :P :P :P

My main fear is about not having an APO...but since I'll be playing the first game against Humans or HE I hope I won't get too many casualties... altough with the new injury tables it's always a risk!

Any ideas, comments, advice, candy, golden piece, whatever gladly accepted! :D

I think that with 55 linemen you can live without an APO  . Unless it's a typo. I don't have a lot of experience with Norse, but I wouldn't take 2 catchers. Not from the start anyway.

Just my 2c,

I like to squeeze in a big guy,
dont decrease your ff, otherwise when you start to need to replace stuff you will realise how good low ff was
i'd leave it as is, or maybe juggle something for an apoth , if you really feel you need it

The Team looks quiet ok to mo. If you start against Elfes or Humans its ok without a Apo, but try to bye one after game 1 or 2 at the first thing, because your Norse can easyly be broken with AV 7. After that get one more Blitzer and the Team is looking good to me. With all men starting with Block you can handle all "normal" teams like Humans standart-Elfes etc. very easy at the beginning of a leage, so try to make as much 2-dice-Blocks as possible with your Players. With Norse YOU have the Block-Advantage ;)

I was considering to drop the FF two or three pts to upgrade a Blitzer to a Big Guy... Ogre or Mino...

What do you think?

I´m not really a Fan starting with a Big Guy. The team should improven end then go for a big-guy after 5-6 games. First try to get 13-14 Players on your Team an then buy a Big Guy. Norse dont really need one of them at the beginning.
Blitzers a really Great in Norse-Teams so go for a 4the one. Later in the Leage the Blitzers will help you most. The Big-Guy will later on just help you holding the Line ;)

i'm more and more thinking a thrower is far from important for norse... you might as well get sure hands on a lino, he'll do the job great, and costs a whole less. oh, and you don't care as much if he dies ;) i'm intending to start a norse team along those lines, if i can ever circumvent the firewall of the campus ^^ oh, and catchers are good for agility skill (dodge, sidestep, diving tackle), but maybe you don't need 2 straight away. the BG at the start is good in that not only he adds punch to your team, but he also helps you keeping your guys alive (one less av7 on the LoS, and a ST5 guy to knock down).

As a Norse player, I think your roster is just fine. Maybe one thing you can change if you ar uncomfortable with the high fan factor, drop it by 2 and grab a coach and cheerleader. That sould ensure you better chance at getting an extra re-roll at the kick offs.

I used to have one of each, but I ALWAYS lost the rolls, in spite of the +1 (in my league most of the other player are FF 1, no Cheers, no Assistants guys).. I think I'll keep FF9!

If I were you, I'd drop at least one, if not two, blitzers. Frenzy is a double edged sword, and since blitzers don't have the monopoly of the block skill, they are not as important for a starting-up team than for other races.

I'd advise you to use the 40 or 80k you will have saved (i.e. by replacing the blitzer(s) by lineman(linemen)) for other undertakings, like getting yourself an extra thrower, or even an apothecary, etc.
You will end up with 10k spare, but that's not the end of the world in my opinion.
While 9ff is not as important for norse as it is for expensive and fragile races like elves, that's not bad either, and you may indeed as well keep that ff.

Uhm..but they are the only one with a direct access to the Strength skills... I was thinking about dropping a Berserker, go downo to FF8 and buy two Linemen anyway.

Yes, the only one to have access to strength skill - i.e. do you think they will all get skills after their first 2-3 matches? Unlikely. While after 2-3 matches, you should have earnt the money to buy yourself at least one more blitzer.
