with the amazing detol you can even strip plastic... not sure how often but even saves bases.

I'd recommend detol as well, it stinks but there's no fumes and it's safe for plastics too.
I did a huge batch of my figs in it and they are as good as new. If you've got lots of black though it can go a bit funny,

I use plain old acetone, and it works for me. I've used Nitro Mors before, and it's good (as long as you don't try and do too many minis at once...it can get a bit gungy.) but acetone does the job just as well - admittedly slower, but with lot less mess and the fumes are nowhere near as bad. I can get a litre bottle for about two quid from the local Art supply shop. (Reminds me...I've just run out and I've just won a bunch of stuff on ebay).
