Veteran Woodies Coachs' Opinons Sought

Post by Drool_bucket »

Hi guys,

Just want to pick the brain of some of you guys, if your interested.

I am playing woodies again and am having success with them. All is fun and well in dodge, throw and catch land. But, I was hoping to poll you guys and see how you generally run your woodies offense. (I know, it's harder to screw up woodies offense then be successful with it)

Last league I got a AG 5 line elf early on, and used him as a passer. I ran my offense from an article I read on Galak's site, flooding the opponents half with 6 recievers and have my thrower hang back outside of blitz range, and then on the next turn I would free up a reciever with a blitz, run the thrower forward, throw a short pass, catch and score. Easy-peasy. Not too often did I fail on a 2 turn TD.

However, this league I am 6 games in and still sans thrower, however I do have 2 WD and 2 Blodging (1 sidestepping as well) Catchers. This league, my offense has been more of a running attack, in that the first turn I move the ball as far upfield as I can, with a WD being a ball carrier and the others forming a cage as far forward around him. Then on turn two of the drive, I use my dodge to get past any defense and score with ease. Worst case scenario I need to rely on Leap.

Even when my opponent sets up deep I can be successful with that running attack. The MV 8 and 9 is just too much for him. (and yes I have a few line elfs form the back side of the cage as well)

Well, my question is really which method do you utilize with your woodies? The throwing attack spreading the field with 6 recievers, or outrunning everyone with Blodgers? Either have more success for you guys?

Last question, my team is 13 strong. 2 catchers (block/sidestep, block), 2 wardancers (stripball/tackle, mighty blow) and 9 lineelfs (dodge x3, block, kick) 6 FF, 2 Rerolls and an apoth. I have 80K banked. After this game I will have atleast 100K. Do I go for the reroll, another catcher (I love MV 9 dodge) or the passer?

The league runs 8 games, 2 playoffs and a championship game, then teams reset. We are in week 6, so I'm passed half-way done and there is no "building for the long haul"

thrower here.............................................................>>catcher here

works every time on offense :P

but seeing as you have none, just get the ball to catchers and run.

defo buy the rr next.

I would recomment the throwing strategy. IT just gives you more options, and forces your opponent to spread out his guys, since he does not know who you are going to throw to. This works especially well if you have a thrower, but i do not recommend getting one until all your lne elves have at least one skill, and one or two have 2 skills. Developed line elves are key to sucess. When your whole team are blodgers, you dont fall down easily, and dont need to burn RR on dodge rolls. The line elves get their skills from completions. use them as throwers until your team is developed enough to get a thrower.

that being said, 2 rr isnt enough. get another one.

For the money of my advice, I would go with the RR. If your stratagy is working fine as is, and you reset after your championship, then help ensure your victory with the improved teamwork. Or in your case, ooops i rolled a one, DO-OVER!
