What skill for a human lineman on a double?

Post by Levinas »

Any ideas? I'm an absolute novice with the humans but thought I'd give them a go in our league (which uses Vault rules so there are a few new skills). We're only 3 games into the league so most players have few skills. I've got a blocking ogre :D , a blodging catcher and a mighty blowing :o blitzer. (plus blitzer, MA7 catcher :( , 5 other linemen, 2 throwers, 4 RR)...

The league has 2 CD teams, 1 Dwarf, 2 dark elf, 1 other human, pro elf, lizardmen, norse and amazon.

I was thinking guard or dodge... but that just seems a bit obvious. Of course I could ignore the double and get kick or block which was my original plan.

Guard or dodge would be my idea too. I'd personally go for guard give some other players a bit of an edge.

How about Leader?

Would be my choice. Other option I think is guard, but I prefer Leader

Guard, Or even as an outside edge diving tackle to deal with all those elves.

Thanks for the comments - so far I'm tending towards guard as the team has 4 rerolls and the players have a few built in rerolls too. But, in vault rules getting a reroll cheap is nice as it keeps the team value down...

Any other suggestions? And I guess any ideas about how a st3 guarder should be used would be welcome. On the line with the ogre or kept free to help out on blitzes?

I would take guard, because you have 4 RR already.

If you are allowed to take the leader reroll for your Oger I would take Leader!

hmmm.....either way actually. Personally I would use him on the line with two other lineman and keep the ogre back a bit to blast a hole through somewhere. This is all based of course on what the opposing coach has for team and the components of that team

hmmmm. interesting - the ogre tends to sit on the line as he's generally a bit useless for me (the game before last he refused to blitz 3 times in a row - it could even have been 4 times) so I tend to use him to get in the way but generally leave anything important to the rest of the team. Of course if I get another double with the ogre it'll be leader or pro. But I can't remember if big guys can use them in the new rules so I'll have to check.

Anyway - guard it is, it seems like a suitably 'lineman' skill, not glamorous but hopefully useful...

I play humans a bit strange I guess but I have had success using the ogre as hole puncher. True you run the risk of bonehead at times but I think you just ran into some bad luck.

Human lineman are fodder in my opinion and are meant as assistants and "get in the way guys".

Guard will be a wonderful addition as it now takes less players to achieve the same effect.

Always be scared of an Ogre's idiocy..but, that is the price you pay for having a guy on your team who's fist is bigger than a Fling...

Good luck!
