Re: BB40K - yayyy!
Slann WERE in 2nd ed officially you know....Darkson wrote:I remember the sillyness in 2nd ed., and bloody good fun it was too. I even came up with rules for Fimir, Slann and other WFB races taht weren't in the game, and best of all Maines!
I'd like to see a game based in the 40K universe. I mean, BB is "based" in the WFB world only loosely (can you imagine the Chaos All-stars turning up for a game in Middenheim? The crowd would be packed with Witch Hunters!), so why not a game "loosely" based in the future? I can just imagine it - Tau passing game vs. 'Nids in-your-face blitzing sytle.
However, I'd say keep the 2 games completely seperate, and even make the 40K game a new one (don't ask me what, my designing skills aren't very good).
I still think we should have a "Random event table" and bring back the old "double 1s on an armour roll" rule frmo 2nd ed. and I'll keep going on about this at every oppurtunity because it will bring back exactly the whackiness people want! (hmmm....

I like the Tau accuracy/Nid blitzing/ Ork WAAARGHiness/ Eldar precision idea....but really can't be bothered. The necromunda gang models do look convertible (new ones on the way too....) and the idea of a blood bowl type game in the underhive is at least VAGUELY concievable in 40K fluff.

I know Slann were in 2nd ed. My fault, I confused myself, I meant I had rules for Lizardmen (old-style), also Troglodytes.
BB in the Underhive, now there's an idea.

Why can't you see Marines playing 'Nids? Is it any more unrealistic than say an Empire team willingly playing host to a Chaos team?
As long as the rules are balanced were's the problem?
I saw on one site that 1 team was made up of Marines, using the Orc roster. Maybe this is a way forward, though I'd like to see new team rosters.

Yeah what's the prob? It's much more realistic to have a horde of zombies and fetching werewolves captained by Frankenstein trying to score touchdowns at some Lizardman temple where the home team is coached by a fat anthropomorphic frog.I can see a Necromunda variant, but Space Marines playing BB? And Tyrannids? Against each other?

Yeah..right.
We all know that we're talking about little metal men in a fantasy scenario...but BB has a history all of it's own. No, there's no freakin' cabalvision in the WHFB universe, and there's no way that humans would line up against Chaos in a sporting contest..but that doesn't mean that anything goes.
I'm in the camp that says BB fluff is unique, and didn't like the re-naming of position players to tie in with the current WHFB versions with the release of 3e...
A tyrannid with a football helmet on that gets sent off for a foul? Oh man...let's not go there!
Next thing you know some lunatic will come up with some sort of Puggy Baconbreath/Eldar Warwalker hybrid...oh wait..

OK then, so WAY Y Y Y in the future, like say 40,000 years ± a few thousand, someone discovers an ancient BloodBowl pitch and, as before, the game is reborn, this time in the 40k universe. . .
BloodBowl matches might even be used as proxy battles for some of the big, world spanning events that take place in that time. . .
Perhaps there is a stadium where, because of great magic or high technology, teams from 40K meet and battle teams from the past. . .
Maybe the teams can only meet in this stadium, the rest of the season they play in their respective leagues, or maybe, there is a crosstime league. . .
It's about the fun, it's a game after all. . .
Thom. . .

Hey, more teams=more fun, right? Let's come up with some balanced Banana Splits and Muppets rosters..oh wait..there's no GW connection there....hang on...let's have some rules for Dark Future Operative and Renegade teams, and while we're at it I want some Manowar Narwhal BB stats...
Oh man...without intending to be offensive here..you want Terminators and Genestealers?..PLAY FREAKIN' SPACE HULK!!!!!

Sounds like an article in the making
This all sounds like the beginnings of an article for the next BB magazine.
I know nothing about 40K but I don't see why someone couldn't create an adaption to the existing 40K rosters and create a BB for the teams of the future. Although you might want to rule no blasters or mass destruction weapons on the field.
If they want to do combat they should go play 40K.

Nah... don't bother telling me. My wh40k universe is frozen to the time of the real Imperial Guard where a planet was stripped of every able man, dressed in the Codex Grey uniforms, given a lasgun, then thrown, a billion soldiers at a time, to fight chaos in some planet far away. And when the fighting is over, Space Marines are scrambled to kill the surviving soldiers of the Imperial Guard. That was grim future, I say.
And there's no need to bring back Squats - they exist to me even now
