Awesome Rat Ogre.

and that's a great looking pitch they're on. How did you make it?

From the picture, i would judge that the rat ogre is actually a wolfen from the Rackham Confrontation Collection

Very nice. The red and white looks great! It was the pitch, though, that caught my eye. Really very nice. How's that static grass hold up? I've always thought it too fragile for a playing surface.

Yep its a confrontation mini...but not a wolfen but a devourer.

The gras is a simple static grass matt. Cutted into right pieces and glued on the board.

Your skaven look pretty good but with that said I'm going to pass on some Skaven painting advice that I received that I really liked.

I painted a few Skaven players I had in prep for a team and a fellow painter saw then and said what I am about to say about yours, "They look too clen."

I thought about what he said and how I could make them look messier without looking like a 10 year old painter.

I experiemented and finally came up with an idea to drybrush everything.
Now over drybrushing is something that rookies often do after they learn the technique so I wasn't sure but it worked!

I drybrushed everything, including armor, skin and clothing. I used several different brush sizes and shapes, as well as thicknesses of paint just like normal. I used a dark brownundercoat and I also varied the amount of "dry" in my dry brush and it gave them a very scratchy and dirty sort of feel but I also painted them very slowly and carefully so they didn't look sloppy. (That's the key!!)
One coach said that they reminded him of Pigpen from the Peanuts strip, but in a way he couldn't define.

Don't know if it would work for you but you might want to give it a shot.
I should also mention that I used several several several layers of color to build up from the base and shadows to the highlights.

Got any pics of your efforts DL? I've always heard the term "Controlled drybrushing" but all it brings to mind are shoddy effects that look good from afar but naff close up.

I really like the colours you chose. Same colours I chose for my humans. Cool Rat Ogre idea. Anyways... you did a really good job on the painting.
