Skills for Dark Elves in a Vault v1.6(.1?) league

Post by martynq »

This is a bit of a non-standard skill development question since I'm playing in a league that uses the current version of the Vault rules. We have the cap currently set at 1500k with the intention that we will raise the cap when three teams have reached the cap. (In this way, we hope to keep the teams within reasonable distance of each other.)

I've just gained 3 skills for my Dark Elf team, and at the same time become the second side to reach the cap. Consequently, I will gain no money until either I go below the cap (due to a player missing a match or dying) or until another team reaches the cap.

My team is as follows:
1. Blitzer (w/Tackle)
2. Blitzer (w/Dodge)
3. Blitzer (NEW SKILL)
5. Line-elf (w/Block)
6. Line-elf (w/Kick)
7. Line-elf (w/ST4)
8. Line-elf (w/Guard)
9. Line-elf (w/Block)
10. Line-elf (w/Dirty Player)
11. Line-elf (NEW SKILL)
12. Line-elf (NEW SKILL, rolled a 10)
13. Line-elf
3 Re-Rolls
Treasury: 120k

I'm thinking of giving Strip Ball to the Blitzer, Block to Line-elf #10, and I'm not at all certain whether to take the movement, the armour increase or the skill for Line-elf #11. (Note that the latter will increase my Team Value by slightly less than the stat increases under the Vault Rules.)

I'm also thinking of buying my final Blitzer with the money, and the moving on to get one more re-roll, and the two Witch Elves once the cap is raised.

Any thoughts?

Martyn

P.S. Apologies for those who don't care for the Vault rules... please ignore this post if that is your feelings.

strip ball / block / AV seem the way to go.....an AV9 elf is sure to aggravate a foe at some point....

don't you want the dirty player to have dodge so he can get to his foul easier? I don't use DP's so i guess thats just theory.

I can't remember at the mo (and can't be bothered looking it up) but if you buy another RR will your TV drop below the cap? Either way buy the RR - its more useful than a 14th player IMO.

The scariest Elf teams I've played against are ones with lots of RR.

As for the skills I'd be tempted by strip ball on the blitzer.

The normal line elf I'd consider tackle as you've only one 1 at the mo, and against another flair team you'll struggle.

The other Elf I'd be tempted by the Av too - and use him as LOS/BG fodder.

god knows best advice - im normally pants with DE but love them anyway. I would say +1av is good, my vault side have used him for every scrim in the middle and hes very good.

Money is a knightmare - i would agree with ian RR is very usefull for all manner of tasks, but would like to see 4 blitzers in the side if capped. Maybe take the rr and shaft someone to try and squeeze a blitzer - but cant see how to pull it off.

Skills I would say dodge on blitzer as my ideal team would be 4blitzers- all with dodge, one with dodge-tackle, 7-10 lineman with block maybe a kick, and keep guard/st as great. Thats it - basically 4 blodge ma7, one kick and some block linemen. Very dull but solid. Far as i see it DE are solid harder (relative term) elf. Dont rate stripball without dodge and leap to threaten and use it too full advantage.

good luck i allways find them hardest elf team to play by miles

cap wise just play and ignore it - sure elf sides will get random miss games and recoup money over time

Thanks for the info... I think I'll go for

Dodge / Block / AV (respectively)

which was roughly what I was thinking of anyway (though I considered Strip Ball - as I consider this though, I realise that the Strip Baller really can only be used for one thing, and it would be better to make him more mobile (w/Dodge) so that I can get to the ball with him more easily).

It was the AV that I was most undecided about, since I've never been able to consider this option before.

I think I *have* to buy a Blitzer next. Otherwise I'll only have 11 players for the next match (the DP is sent off  ).
