The 2nd TBB Quarterly Paintoff :: ALL OVER

Post by Evil Git »

One of these day's i'll settle on a name for this competition but i think a paintoff is the best i can think of.

anyway, with the last competition being a huge success and the dust starting to settle on those paint pots, let's turn our attentions onto the next installment.

so what are your thoughts as to what to do this time around. do you want to see an open format, where you get any old figure that you want to paint and enter that, or do you fancy the look of something else? maybe a secret weapons comp with all those new sw's coming out shortly from GW.

maybe you want to see another of the small independants get championed or even you're sick to the back teeth of painting contests and want to tell me to shut the hell up. it's down to you. what do the people want...

Possible Choices

Open (any figure from any range)
Secret Weapons
Independant Companies (but not Phigs Miniatures as they were last times)
Latest GW Figures (2004 - 2005)
Only Current GW Figures
Only 2nd Ed Figures
Something Else

***EDIT***

OK it's an open format paintoff with the closing date being set for Friday 25th March 2005. This gives everyone absolutely ages for painting which we felt last time was enough.

website address for the paintoff entries http://sky.prohosting.com/evilgit
email address for the pictures to be sent weblwarrior@hotmail.com or maybe you can try out my new spangly gmail account 3vil.git@gmail.com

so far there are 19 entries, and there's still a few more days to go before the end. in so far are:

Melifaxis
Mamira
Thadrin
Tante kaethe
Tojorub
Mcdeth
Xtreme
Jam
Traveller
Janken64
Norse
Chairface
Djengis khan
Goonerz
Sturmjarl
Satanas
Dave
Richred_uk
and me :D (no i didn't almost forget myself, well alright i did)

with Babs coming in later this week.

I'd say open, but Shadowforge is another good option IMHO.

One other thought we could just do 2004/2005 GW BB releases. Not as much variety in figures, but then we could focus more on the paint job itself?

EDIT: And I will write down the e-mail address right away this time so that if TBB is down I don't screw myself out of participating.

oh forgot to mention, this time around i'll sort out a different voting system. probably something along the lines of a top three. First choice gets say 5 points, second would get 3 and third get 1. although these scores are likely to get changed once i've figured it all out. it's just to give you all an idea.

sorry mel you mean just use either ones that came out last year or this year to date from gw. would khemri come under this or were they out in 2003? it's been a bit of a headache today.

maybe just have it as current gw range, so no 2nd ed. or maybe have it as just 2nd ed. hmm not a bad idea.

2005 would just get us these in the first quarter (mid-january releases)

2004 would give us these I think:

I'd rather have an open this time then back to a theme for the next one. But if we do have a theme this time 2ed mini would be my choice. 8)

You're liable to get a much bigger entry list with open..that way people could stick in anything relatively recent, player from current team they're working on, legacy figs or whatever...

I'd agree with Xtreme, maybe alternating between open and themed...or even open, GW, non GW...whatever. Be nice to have a more sizeable entry list though...too narrow a band is counter to that in many ways...

What about "star-players" any one of them from any edition?

I discussed this with Evil git in an e-mail ages ago but thought I'd put it in here too.

What is the general opinion about donating a mini (starplayer) to an auction - A "pro-painted starplayers" e-bay type thing, all of them in one lot and the proceeds going to the blind (cos they will not have the chance of painting mini's)
Whatever the minis make, the money generated goes to the winning person's countries blind charity!

Is this another of my bad ideas or what? :-?

hmmm xtreme and woody

i think that this is probably the best way of going about things. have a somewhat structured layout so people can pick and choose about which one they want to enter.

have an open one this time around (any fig from any manufacturer as long as it's bb related) and try to have it as the biggest we can.

then after that just do a gw comp (figures from the current range of mini's? 2nd ed? whatever, that's not until the summer when we're sure that the more miniatures will be available like the new human team)

so unless there are any objections about this then we'll go for an open paintoff this time around. get scouring those catalogues to find the best pieces, this one's (hopefully) going to be big.

evilsteve

that's a very good idea and one that i may go with later on in the year. not a bad idea
